On the subject of shoes, I've been out of the game for a few years and will need to buy a new pair of road shoes soon. Why are they now all so fucking hideous?

Carbon plates and loads of bouncy foam

You can still get sensible looking ones. Just the quickest are fairly silly looking. Though I’ve got used to everyone lining up with them so they look fairly normal now on race day.
