Rear light wise, I’m a big fan of the bontrager flare R (older version) think the new one is the flare RT. I have some hench exposure thing on the front to light the unlit roads home and that does a great job as a front flash. I use them year round, day as well as night.

Default recomendation, to be seen, Exposure Trace/TraceR set. Use all year.
Or TraceR + Sirius for the occasional need to see some road. There is also the new Boost and BoostR. -

I too run a super blinky exposure rear light and on it’s lowest setting it lasts an age and yet is still “fuck that’s bright” bright.

Yep. Got it because she's at the back and we're doing all nighters. Plus I generally have dynamo or Fly6 camera light going.

Thanks all,
I've been doing a few googles and see lumen recommendations for 3-5000 front lights.
It appears that mountain bike specific lights are where its at to see where your going in the dark at speed....I will go for something like Magicshine 3000
p.s. I was hit by a DPD last October from behind (next to Legoland) and apparently he didn't see me, although I was wearing hi-vis, reflective strips and front rear lights....
This winter there will be no mistaking my presence!

If you’re on the road brighter =/= better. A super bright front mountain bike light is just as likely to get you hit as you dazzle oncoming drivers as you throw lumens all over the road and sky. It’s similar to being in a car and oncoming traffic not dipping their beams, terrible.
Get a proper light with a dipped beam so they the light goes on the road rather than into the sky. Exposure Strada (I think?) is their road specific version, or anything approved for use in Germany.

I had read about dazzle and thought - I'll just angle the light to the ground rather then straight on.....would this not work?
-
• #5435
Better than nothing, but then why get a super powerful one if it’s all hitting your front wheel?
I also find that a really bright spot just in front of me causes me problems as my eyes adjust to that and I lose the edges where the light is les focussed. But that may just be me!
Find j need a lot less light when riding a properly shaped beam pattern. And it’s a lot less tiring.

Have a read on max exposure and beam patterns . A long throw like the strada is better than a max d rabbit eye burner.

I want to mount an exposure light under a Garmin out front mount.
What's the option for reducing the overall height (top of Garmin to bottom of light) as far as possible? Or are all the various mounts about the same?

Or are all the various mounts about the same?
Most use the 'action camera' aka gopro standard and have really similar dimensions, recon you'd need access to a 3d printer to get anything much flusher.

• #5439
Which light have you got?
I've got one of those action camera mounts for exposure that doesn't fit my Trace

Anyone got some teeny tiny silly lights that weigh less than 5g for my hill climb bike?

I've still got a few of those little single-LED flashers. I can't remember the brand. Presume they're still around.
Similar to these:

Oooh, way cooler...

Those look ideal. £3.72 for lights, £13.06 shipping :I
Trying to avoid the silicone ones as they tend to get switched on in a kit bag or on the bike, emptying the batteries.

I thought you only wanted them for a HC so just install, use, remove, no?
I can't find a link to the ones I have. They existed when I was still in Oz and I bought another set in the UK many years ago. I think they still have the original button cells in them!

install, use, remove
They inevitably get turned on during that process
-
• #5447
Yeah, they'll be on for the event and then you remove, turn off and stick someone on a shelf where they can't be turned on. What am I missing? If you're that worried, take the batteries out when not in use.

Planet X used to sell them BITD
A dynamo setup if you can. I'll never look back! Apart from occasionally checking the rear is still working.
