Mad that you got tugged while I was out committing actual street crime and I got zero interest.

Massive queue in the supermarket/post office today (it doubled back on itself through the aisles). Someone asked “is this the post office queue?” My reply of “I hope so and that there isn’t a granny in a coffin at the other end” got many many stoney frowns.

The 250,000 mourners figure was 50k less than saw King George VI lying in state 70k less than Churchill who was only there for 3 days vs 4 and was obviously well below official predictions of 1 million(!) Even Queen mum got 200k in 3 days

Is it all over yet or will the grief news cycle go on until the coronation news cycle starts?
Wish I could emigrate.

Bastards - the only decent thing we get from them is the occasional bank holiday. The benefit here was 2 in the BH-free last quarter of the year. We don't need another one in the BH-heavy springtime...

The Queen's funeral on Monday was watched by more than 25 million viewers in the UK ... In comparison, Princess Diana's funeral in 1997 had more than 32 million UK viewers

Definitely will dominate the yearly roundups in December. That plus "Boris got all the big calls right". Can't wait.

Inheritance tax wouldn't apply as all the assets would end up in private trusts with the shareholders undeclared etc etc etc
But yes that monarchy sounds fine

No monarchy is fine.

Pretty sure the monarch would also try to gift the estate and money to their heir 7+ years before their death. That's the most common trick for dodging iht.
I’m pro monarchy.
but it needs one of them with a £200k salary, 1 PA, one driver, one security detail. contracted to 15 days per month of appearances/openings/ceremonies
no need for 4000+rooms so an apartment at buck house the rest is run by the national trust along with windsor but entrance is free for UK subjects.
as for the other properties owned by the royals then inheritance tax applies so it’s likely that one of sandringham or balmoral will have to be sold but again 3000 rooms is a lot so a deal could be done with donating to the national trust while keeping a holiday home on each estate.
All other royal civil list payments to be tapered to zero over 5 years, extended cousins/aunts/uncles to be removed from list asap.
