  • With some decent competition from a bunch of entitled, dim prats and their hangers on, Andrew does stand out as particularly toxic.

But hey, let’s focus on Meghan Markle, mainly for reasons that no one is willing to say out loud (although apparently either Philip or Charles did).

Also, not wishing to speak I’ll of the dead, but if the queen was so wonderful and never put a foot wrong, why did her family turn out pretty much universally dysfunctional? Why did she never speak out against her husbands racism? Why did she make sure that not only she avoided tax on vast unearned wealth but also that the Equalities Act didn’t apply to the royal household (although see Philip, at least, for the latter)? And, there’s loads more to list (and doubtless even more that we will never hear about).

Worst bit though? Fuck all we can do about it

  • I was discussing this today. It annoys me that it’s deemed necessary for the Queen/King to be silent about anything that matters. It gives them plenty of excuse to not call out bad shit as much as it stops them supporting important things. Also with them having such power over matters that have huge effects and the ability to block them, surely it’s even more important to have transparency in their beliefs and views so if we start to realise ‘hold up that’s a bit sketchy Liz/Charlie’ we can at least hope to call them out and think maybe we shouldn’t let them have such control.

Edit to add: I swear the only reason so many people have gone from ‘Charles will be shite’ to ‘After seeing that speech I believe Charles will be an amazing King’ is that they’ve realised he’ll stop talking about and supporting all of the things they disagreed with him about and he’ll instead just be another silent power who has carried on this useless procession of lineage that they all cherish so much.

  • I used to be pretty ambivalent about the royal family but the pulling back of the curtain in the last few years with the tax and law stuff (plus Andrew) has made me firmly anti and the sycophancy is only hardening that stance.

Abolish the monarchy. It’s what she would have wanted.

  • What happens when the monarch is a bit batshit though? Do we really want the NHS to be offering homeopathy for instance?
