What chance is there that succession is ever challenged and avoided?
All this last week shows is that the establishment acts to continue without questions being given the chance to be aired.
Even if nothing changes a debate needs to be had about the continuation of the monarchy.
I am at an age where my contemporaries seem to be morphing into traditionalists and devoted forelock tuggers.
I hope that a younger generation takes power sooner
rather than later and that they make pension payments contingent on (at the very least) having a debate about some of the shit things in this country.I suppose my point is, such debates can't wait for the 'right time'. When the right time comes, vested interest does what it always does.

We're on a train back from holiday and don't have any food at home. Pray for me.

So she didn’t even write it herself

Nope. Her brother in law.

With some decent competition from a bunch of entitled, dim prats and their hangers on, Andrew does stand out as particularly toxic.
But hey, let’s focus on Meghan Markle, mainly for reasons that no one is willing to say out loud (although apparently either Philip or Charles did).
Also, not wishing to speak I’ll of the dead, but if the queen was so wonderful and never put a foot wrong, why did her family turn out pretty much universally dysfunctional? Why did she never speak out against her husbands racism? Why did she make sure that not only she avoided tax on vast unearned wealth but also that the Equalities Act didn’t apply to the royal household (although see Philip, at least, for the latter)? And, there’s loads more to list (and doubtless even more that we will never hear about).
Worst bit though? Fuck all we can do about it

Even worse.
Do these parasites actually do anything?

I was discussing this today. It annoys me that it’s deemed necessary for the Queen/King to be silent about anything that matters. It gives them plenty of excuse to not call out bad shit as much as it stops them supporting important things. Also with them having such power over matters that have huge effects and the ability to block them, surely it’s even more important to have transparency in their beliefs and views so if we start to realise ‘hold up that’s a bit sketchy Liz/Charlie’ we can at least hope to call them out and think maybe we shouldn’t let them have such control.
Edit to add: I swear the only reason so many people have gone from ‘Charles will be shite’ to ‘After seeing that speech I believe Charles will be an amazing King’ is that they’ve realised he’ll stop talking about and supporting all of the things they disagreed with him about and he’ll instead just be another silent power who has carried on this useless procession of lineage that they all cherish so much.

I used to be pretty ambivalent about the royal family but the pulling back of the curtain in the last few years with the tax and law stuff (plus Andrew) has made me firmly anti and the sycophancy is only hardening that stance.
Abolish the monarchy. It’s what she would have wanted.

TfL reckon 1m people just around Westminster tomorrow. Asking mourners to stagger their trips.

Good job it’s not hot otherwise it could have gone a bit Woodstock 99

Your local independent grocery store will probably be open tomorrow. Waitrose are just pissed because they have lost their royal warrant.

They're still delivering bagels to Chas, aren't they?
-
• #3614
So they do. The whole thing is bonkers.

They aren't great and have never been, the peasants just dont want to see the wood for the trees and shout about how hard she worked for 70 years. If she worked that hard she'd have not lasted for as long as she had that's for sure.
She shielded all that mob from the shambles they are, they think they are above everyone and its really only william who's realised he's gonna need to play the game a bit to get folk to see by it.
Its the like the DB thing, only five mins ag0 people were shouting about him taking money for the coming WC which is almost built on slavery but he's q'd for 13 hours so he's a man of the people now.

Absolutely, my ambivalence was ignorance/naivety but once the scales fell from my eyes ….

To be fair, I'm not sure people are paying as much attention as you think about these things. Does everybody know about his WC stuff? I'm an away travelling football fan and didnt until you just mentioned it...twitter is not real life.
Same goes for a lot of things being discussed here. Only a small percentage of the population are well informed.

To be fair, If it wasn't for the monarchy I'd be going to work tomorrow instead of a lovely big bike ride.

People trying to get the last bit of driving in before the roads close tomorrow.

Did say there was a decent bit of kick off about it, there might have been some stories in the news. the problem is that not seems to stick to these folk and people have short memories for celebs about what they do.

What happens when the monarch is a bit batshit though? Do we really want the NHS to be offering homeopathy for instance?
-
• #3622
That’s what I mean. He’s already into homeopathy but he’s just not going to talk about it now whilst being in control of everything. At least if he could talk about all his beliefs we could all take stock and keep an eye on him. Maybe some people would come to realise it’s probably not a great idea to have some silent leader making decisions without sharing any of their beliefs.
-
• #3623
To be fair, if it wasn’t for the monarchy I’d not have to take an unwanted day off without pay

It even has the nazi salute.

People kicking off in Scotland over the lack of respect being given for the queen, respect is gained and shouldn't be just given that's what a lot of people have seem to have forgotten.
He clearly doesn't give a fuck what the public think of him and knows he's untouchable. The full thing is completely bewildering and shows how detached from reality that lot are and how antiquated then full royal thing is now in 2022.
