  • Oh other thing, Q-factor is wierd with the supplied cranks. I think changing one of them to a BMX straight crank, or getting some of the posh Lekkie cranks, help

  • Great, thanks. Seems pretty quiet, especially compared to the Bosch CX I have.

It's mainly reliability and overall feeling I'm concerned about, but I think negative comments, as with anything, are amplified and regurgitated on forums so it's hard to get a real-world review. I do know that a creak, or unusual clicking noise would annoy me if I couldn't diagnose it...

    Cheers!

  • Pretty sure they're impossible to get over here now, before I bought my bullitt I was eager to try a douze but I would have had to go to France for one, I don't think that's changed?

  • Bafang Mid-Drive Motor Kit – BBS02 – C965
    52V 15Ah Down Tube Battery Pack – Polly4C Tesla 21700

On a bullitt, with a madjax box. Frequently seen running around SE London with either 1 11 year old or 1 11 + 1 5 year old. Can propel both kids up college road and wells park road.
Kids mass is probably 75-80 kg up front. Rider is 70 kg.

  • i reckon it takes a few hours maybe over a couple of weeks to really get used to how an E cargo bike handles. Yes the powerful motors are punchy, but you can totally manage it once you get used to it.

I agree with you. When we got a Brompton about ten years back - also on the bike to work scheme, from my previous employer - initially my partner who was riding it when pregnant found it too "twitchy". But within a few days it was all fine. Same with riding the Christiana (second hand this time!), you need to reorient your brain a bit with your body positioning when going around corners. But essentially they're all bikes, innit. It just takes a bit of acclimatisation and then you're sorted.

  • Not sure, possible. They had issues with supply during and post COVID as I was asking them about replacing the front-end on ours for a longer one and gave up! London Green Cycles seem to have stopped supplying them. I think there are a few "electric" bikes shops that stock/sell them now, but these would be electric models only of course, but they can get other models in.

These have a shop in Acton which I visited:
    https://urbanebikes.com/collections/douze

@Vince has a Douze and whilst he was in France in (his/a) van he's bought some bits for his Douze as I assume they're easier to get hold of and cheaper?

  • You can order straight from Douze & they charge RRP so it's their dream situation.

My Douze is going for a service at London Green Cycles this Friday so I will ask if they still stock

  • Only assume they've stopped selling them as they're no longer on their website. Hope the Douze flies through it's service...

  • I rode my mountain bike after 6 or so weeks exclusively on the Bullitt, nearly fell off straight away.

Haven't missed e-assist on acoustic bikes, luckily.

  • Ah yeah, did also spot that – apparently the TSDZ2 has an unusual taper so ruins normal JIS/ISO cranks. This is forum regurgitation though, not first hand experience.

  • Been trying to become a Douze dealer for 3 years now, they arent taking on new dealers anywhere in UK afaik, LGC I think could still get them but don't stock as they're still isn't much stock to get, and with brexit, it's hard for smaller companies like Douze and LGC (or any other UK retailer) to bring in single digit bikes per year, especially when elsewhere within EU is really simple to send their stock to existing retailers. It's not Douze being difficult, it's just the way things are now.

  • Thanks @BrickMan. Brexit has really balls things up. Yep I think LGC got stung big style with custom charges on a small order a while back and weren't looking to get more stock until they had resolved the issue. Shame as they're great bikes...

  • Yeah, no idea either I'm afraid. It's on my todo list to change them, but they're fine for the short trips I'm doing around town on it

  • Been cruising around the back lanes, hilly but nothing mental and the brakes are just getting so hot! Time for a 203mm rotor with slightly better heat dissipation and then I’ll move onto some finned pads if not some hope brakes I reckon

  • What callipers atm?

  • 2Pot new style deores; for this bike with the riser bar the new style offset clamp works terribly, otherwise I’m happy with the brakes, just as soon as you have gone down any incline they are so hot they are sqwarking and losing power. Probably just Bosch some Hopes on there at some point

  • Thought about trying the 4 pot deores (as well as the bigger rotors)? Can’t be beaten on price imo! With sintered pads. Never had an overheating issue with them and never used finned pads or special rotors.

  • Also the lower model 4 pots (Acera) are decent and a bit cheaper

  • yeah I did mull it, but id sooner swap these onto the wifes mtb, flog her older deores and pay out for hopes.

Just found benno now export the frame board to the uk! winner winner! "tank plate"

    https://www.bennobikes.com/products/boost-tank-plate/

  • Mechanic friend of mine bought Ø203 2.3mm Galfer discs for their UA cargo for the same reason.

  • Yeah hoping this 203mm sorts it as our van is costing a bomb recently so hope brakes are on the back burner

  • Why do you have 2 bells?

  • Found the gold one on the floor in the shed and just pinged it on for safe keeping

  • I've seen 220mm rotors as well..

  • Not sure I have clearance!
