  • Budget will always be the biggest restraint, but in some ways I think a test ride can be a bit misleading to how it will ultimately handle.

    i reckon it takes a few hours maybe over a couple of weeks to really get used to how an E cargo bike handles. Yes the powerful motors are punchy, but you can totally manage it once you get used to it. My experience with the CX was like that anyway.

    So when doing a test ride, it might be a bit easy to be put off by the bike that handles most differently to your regular bike, but that might be what you want (you just don’t know it yet)

    I agree with you. When we got a Brompton about ten years back - also on the bike to work scheme, from my previous employer - initially my partner who was riding it when pregnant found it too "twitchy". But within a few days it was all fine. Same with riding the Christiana (second hand this time!), you need to reorient your brain a bit with your body positioning when going around corners. But essentially they're all bikes, innit. It just takes a bit of acclimatisation and then you're sorted.
