  • Think a tyre shop can save this one? It's only had 1k miles 🥲

  • looks like you're screwed....

    Sorry ..
    Perhaps they could plug it?

  • So am I mad to be considering this ?
Offered by the owner of the Alfa specialist workshop I use for the GTV, has done 100,000 miles but has been meticulously maintained ( almost excessively , £3k spent last 12 months ) and I do trust the guys implicitly as they have looked after various Alfa of mine for years.
It’s the 1.8 turbo cloverleaf, manual not TCT.
Only stumbling block may be that wifey may insist I sell the GTV……

  • Just picked up a JB4 for the Superb, so hoping that will take it to ~350bhp.

The guy selling it worked in R&D for ECUTEK and he spoke very highly of the JB4 which gave me a bit of confidence that it's not going to any damage.

He said based on his experience with customer cars at ECUTEK, the JB4 with downpipe, intake, and intercooler should break 400bhp barrier on my Superb.

  • It's a cool car for sure, but the GTV is much cooler.

  • They're just not very interesting in my opinion. Certainly not if it hinged on selling the GTV.

I actually did look at buying one not long ago but there was nothing special about it.

Obviously, you should drive it and make up your own mind though!

  • Part of the reason am considering is that the GTV is basically a toy as I cant fit Brompton in it for my park n ride commute. So at the moment we have 4 cars at home as I use my old Punto sporting to get to work.
And I have started to think that having a "plaything" is a bit extravagent, and I could use the cloverleaf for work and fun, as apparently this one is properly sorted and very quick.

  • I should add however that wifeys car is also a Giulietta , the multiair petrol mapped to 180bhp.

  • Serious Skoda!
How come you’ve gone for a box rather than a map? Or do you need a box to map it in the first place?

  • GTV is a modern classic.

Metcalfe compared the Veloce to a Golf...

  • It's not red though.

  • I had something similar and they just sealed it with something. £15.

  • Though to add...
I've just switched to a F31 330d after two Giulias on cheap lease deals. Miss the Alfa focus on handling and dynamics, and weirdly the build quality. Beemer is good at everything but...

  • Just picked up a JB4 for the Superb

bit of an overkill for Uber

  • How much are they asking for the Giulietta? I'm local & possibly in the market for a hot hatch

  • bit of an overkill for Uber

    Ouch!

  • Neither is my GTV !

  • I don’t think they have advertised as he’s only just taken it on.
Just a chat we had when I was picking the GTV up.
    You local ? Where?

  • I'm pro custom remaps but preset remaps aren't always brilliant. They're either very safe which means you don't get as much bang for your buck, or they remove certain limits or safety parameters to maximise performance which puts your engine and turbo at risk.

The JB4 is essentially a modern version of a piggyback ECU so it's keeping all the stock safety parameters and limits in place. It's live reading from 4 or 5 different sensors, as well as OBD2, and because of that, it will also perform well with some extra basic modifications such as intake/exhaust/cooling, whereas the preset remap can't take into account for any modifications.

If I was to go for a different turbo or start modifying the actual engine, then I'd want a custom remap on a dyno that tied in all the modifications.

  • In High Wycombe. I've got an XC70 at the moment but I've just moved to a place with on-street parking and it doesn't fit in half the spaces that I find ;)

  • Going for the Taxi vibe. Got to get the passengers puking in a bin.

  • L&M are in Medmenham not far from Marlowe.
Karl’s given me dibs so I’ll keep you posted.
Really, really not sure what to do, as the GTV is my baby and I know the moment she goes , I’ll regret it and the prices for ultra low mileage cars like mine will skyrocket.
On the other hand it is an indulgence to keep ………

  • Thanks, if you don't go for it then would appreciate a heads up. My default option was going to be a Golf GTi MkV but very open to any other options.
