I don't want to go into too much detail because he might be identifiable if I give ages etc but the son of a friend of mine played at a PL club from early teenage years until his late teens and was looking like he was about to break into the first team but out of the blue he was dropped and then "released". He struggled to find another playing job in the UK and ended up going to a relatively minor league in another country where is earning not very much money by UK standards (i.e not enough to set him up for life if he manages to play until retirement). He is struggling to cope with the mental health side of this switch from "the next big hope" to "nobody will hire me" and I believe the PFA are providing a lot of support to him to try to recover his career or find something else to do.
