  • Fingers crossed I'm coming off the back of a very stressful 3 weeks. I'm not posting this story for sympathy (except for the cat), but a PSA for double checking your cat prescriptions. First, Higgs got in a fight with a neighbour and ended up with an infecteed abscess from bitemarks behind her ear. Very pussy for a few days, and the vet prescribed some antibiotics and anti-inflammatories (Metacam). After 5 days, the abscess went down and all seemed well, then Higgs suddenly started being really mopey and vomited a few times in one day. Back to the vet, and they diagnosed here with aserious kidney condition, and said we should carry on with the Metacam whilst she has twice weekly fluids injections. At his point, I realised for the first week I had accidently doubled her dose of Metacam, which was the cause of the kidney problems. So for the following week I had thought I had possibly killed our cat as she wouldn't eat and was clearly very unwell. Best case I thought I had caused her life-altering kidney damage. After a few fluid injections, she seemed to be doing much better, but then had a relapse, the vet ran bloods again and this time it looks like pancreatitis, the kidney levels are back to normal. Cue more antibiotics and Metacam (this time I am sure of the dose). Today she seems to be on the up again.

TLDR: Double check the doses of your cats' medicine, don't be stupid like me.
