  • Can you ask them to use Tado for downstairs? Or vice versa?

I wouldn’t want two systems in one home tbh. One is ballache enough.

  • Expansionless for pneumatics, silly.

  • Going to do my first concrete pour tomorrow, just a small strip which will form the base of a water feature. Something of a test run before I screed the existing patio base.

Surprisingly seems to be going to plan so far barring painfully slow pace.

  • Actual I just realised I nearly fucked up. Was going to use the same grano I bought for the screeding throughout that slab but doing some more reading it turns out it's not really meant to be used that way.

I'm not going to get this finished tomorrow am I.

  • I'm not going to get this finished tomorrow am I.

Every DIY thing I (try to) do

  • Well I've started, so I need to finish. Within the next 30 minutes actually so I can take my son for his swimming lesson!

Main concrete base done, just the grano screed mixing now. I read somewhere that it should be laid before the base cures. Don't tell me if I'm wrong because it's too late now!

  • Apart from scribing the baseboard, it’s on to priming and painting!

  • Looks great!

  • That’s really very nice, are they at different depths as well?

  • Thanks! Still working out the best way to incorporate the LED stip lighting. It’s between creating an entire fascia board that sits on top of the edges or creating little strips that fit into each recess. Either way, there’s going to be lots more to do.

  • Yes. Bottom ones are deep enough / high enough for vinyl (left loads of room for large box sets) and the tops are 20cm shallower and different heights for putting Lego in.

Middle is for the turntable and amp.

  • I've had good results with the aluminium extrusions with diffusing caps for led strips.

Are you painting with a roller? I've been nagging myself to use a roller more often, with acrylic paints and a small foam roller you can get a great finish. I got so used to painting with a brush it's become my go to.

  • I think I’m literally going to fit a 15mm mdf piece at the top of each box and then use led strip clips to fix them behind that.

The leds will be shining into the box and won’t need diffusing as they’ll be plenty bright enough to avoid looking like individual lights.

Definitely using a foam roller. Zinsser bin then Craig and Rose chalky emulsion.

  • Would probably use a C&R acrylic eggshell on shelves rather than emulsion. It's a lot more durable.

I couldn't get on with led's without a diffuser. That's for bookshelves though, the spines seem to reflect the individual spots when I've tried.

  • Thought about eggshell but I’m matching the walls taking the risk with emulsion to blend in. I can always paint over

  • When I've had to do that in the past I've used a clear matt varnish over the top of the emulsion. It's easier to take a chance on diy though.

  • Wera advent calendar has dropped

    Looking like a winner.

  • Shame about the red accents. Wera colour scheme is the best!

  • Not as bad as the reversed colour VDE set.

  • Is there any reason that I couldn't add another light fitting in-line with this one?
