I used something like the Nitto F 16 https://freshtripe.co.uk/nitto-f-16-bag-support/ for my firsts travels It was sold by/with Chapak 's bags in the early eighties.
There was a small bunjee cord hooked from the bottom of the bag to the mudguard eyelets . I ve had my food catapulted a few times on the road in font of me overloading it. Let' s hope this thing doesn't throw fits like mine used to.
