Those numbers are from both. The monarchy is still popular
What I mean is that the monarch is popular because of the Queen, even if the question asked not to account for her, the only experience we have with our monarchy is with the queen, so monarch is the queen itself.

I wonder if the queens popularity comes from not doing anything, controversial or otherwise. You can't really disagree with someone who just shows up to functions and is a bit "nice gran" to everyone. She's just been an ever-present existence in most people's lives.
Compare to our new king has been a bit more outspoken and political.

Hard to imagine any other public figure that would have the EU and US flying flags at half past and such large out pourings from other Governments leaders

Thinking about it, she's also provided a thread of continuity for world leaders as well. One person with access to a huge number of leaders and life experience going right back to the second world war.

William inherits the Duchy

and considered pretty sensible
Apart from the lobbying for the NHS to offer homeopathy and the like.

This is so fucking archaic. Can't believe we are discussing who inherits who's title and estates in 2022.
But then I am foreign

I wondered that too but for some reason more people are neutral about Charles than were neutral about the Queen from what I saw...if being boring and on the fence was the clincher I would have expected the Queen to have had more people with neutral views of her.
I reckon you're right...nice old granny vibes made the difference.

Thank you.

I’m not. I agree wholeheartedly with you.

We’re talking about biscuits.

the high water mark for support for the monarchy appears to have been just after the Queen parachuted into the Olympic stadium in 2012
Hopefully, someone will tell Chucky this and we'll see him try to wingsuit it into the centre circle at the World Cup.

Likewise. Let them keep the titles, but strip all the power and as much assets as possible. They’re already rich enough.
Loved Liz. Although went I found out she meddled in laws for her own benefit, I couldn’t stick up for her anymore. She saw everything change, and now is a good point for us to move on and modernise.

They've cancelled my kids football for god's sake. He's 8 and doesn't give a fuck about the queen.

How would you see the asset stripping working? Just take privately held assets of royals or other rich people too? What would you do with the assets?
-
• #77367
Repeal all the inheritance tax avoidance laws?

Late yeterday every school in the country were sent guidelines and advice on how to reach a decision on whether to cancel events or close or not. My friend, who is deputy head at a private school in a pretty conservative area, read it and decided to close for a few days next week. Messages went to parents.
Today he found out that his school is the only school in the county that decided to close. He's feeling a bit stupid.
Edit: No complaints from parents so far though

Fair enough...indirect asset stripping.
-
• #77370
I'm pretty comfortable with the notion of asset stripping the rich

• #77371
Where would you set the threshold?

• #77372
Progressive taxes would sort it

Pretty bonkers not to talk to other Heads before calling it.

I read about some minor constitutional role that rotates between two families everytime there is a new monarch

Yougov have him as 72% popular + neutral opnions. So yeah, not Queen popular but hardly unpopular.
