• Am trying to cut down my camera kit as I’ve way too much stuff and don’t use it all.

    Debating whether to keep either
    A small body (x pro 2/3) and a few small lenses (24, 35, 50, 85mm equivalents or close enough)
    Or
    X100V (35mm)

I can’t decide if I think 35mm is a bit flat and boring and having a small selection of lenses would be better, or if actually decision paralysis about which lens to use is the greater evil and I should really force myself to figure out how to make 35mm more interesting.

    Thoughts?

Have a similar line up and feelings about the 35mm equiv. fov but despite this, tend to use the X100V the most. It's the smaller and easier setup to throw in a bag or take on bike trips. Still have lots to learn about making it more interesting too.

There is a little decision paralysis but I tend to choose 1 camera and 1 lens for most outings, treating the X100V as a 23mm lens in the lineup. On one hand, I get a bit of variety and use the kit, on the other hand, I'm not mastering a single fov.

Unless you need the funds, I'd hang onto both.

  • Been trying to make a similar decision for over 10 years. Starting to favour 28mm over 35 for holidays. 50, 75, 90 all get specialised use. With 75 being the most used for portraits. I also have a 40 which I prefer to the 35 because it's lighter.

Also complicating the decision that the 50mm is considered 'normal' because a normal size print viewed from a normal distance (taken with a 50mm) will produce an approximation of normal perspective for the viewer. Although that too can be debated.

I'm sure there have been many pages written about these choices. 35mm is a reasonable compromise, especially with software to crop images and lots of pixels to start with.
