Found the easiest way (for me anyway) was to put the tyre on the wheel, squirt soapy water around the bead, take the valve core out, pump like mad (I only have a track pump, no air blast canister/compressor), get the tyre seated (satisfying popping noises), detach pump nozzle, put the sealant in through the valve stem, replace valve core, and pump up, then give the wheels a good spin.
Result is inflated tyre, and no sealant explosion! -

That's assuming you've already fitted the rim tape!

I'm currently using simworks 'the homage' for this (in green!)
Would recommend. Maybe not in green though. -

Thanks for that! I've got access to a compressor at work which will hopefully make life a bit easier. What purpose does the soapy water serve?
-

I did look at that, but £65 per tyre, ufff

The oko stuff planetx do is the only stuff I’ve used but it’s been excellent.

Just helps the tyre pop on the bead a bit easier, especially if the tyre/wheel combo is a bit tight.
As you have a compressor, you shouldn't need to bother with soapy water though. -

Thing is until it all goes wrong thats when you learn the disadvantages.

Yep, I've considered going back to tubes on a couple of occasions recently, getting a face full of tyre milk is not fun.
-
• #9336
Ah, got you! Will try without first and start soaping if needs be.

Having a very hard time seating my tires on two different wheelsets (potentially 3) with Schwalbe G-one Allround 650x35B, I am considering to try different tires, which is a pain tbh.
But does anyone have recommendation for a good 650x35B or 650x38B tire that would be ok on road, ok on gravel (light, like the g-one allround), preferably black? -

If it makes you feel any better, I just mounted the same tyres (in 700 flavour) on DT Swiss GR531 rims & they were the toughest I've done in a while.

Is there a good alternative to the rene herse naches pass (26 x 1.8)? or where I could find them at a reasonable price.
i've been looking at contact speeds (26 x 1.6) but it seems like they are a wired tyre and therefore might feel a bit heavy on my isen?
26" gravel kings are too wide for the fork.

RH at a reasonable price? Good luck.
Paselas come in 26x1.75, folding or wire bead. -

opinions on the vittoria corsa N.EXT? more durable version of corsa G2.0s? or just marketing?

Have they been released in the wild yet?

I can’t imagine a 100 TPI nylon casing will feel anything like as nice as a proper Open Corsa.

After 3 punctures today in separate and unrelated incidents on my commute I’m ordering some Marathon Plus’ later. The jeopardy of a flat is too much to bear.
SJS have them for £30 in 700x25 anyone seen them cheaper? -
• #9346
Just a shout out for the Vitoria Rubino pro control. £20 at merlin. Probably a good 3K miles without a visitation so far. Not quite marathon strength but not far off and a bit faster.
-
• #9347
Cool I’ll check them out.
These are Rubino Pro G2s they were good for the first winter and 3,500 miles, but this bit of rain and with it field run off and pop pop pop. -
• #9348
Well marathon are certainly the fit and forget favourite, but I thought these were pretty decent for the price. They don’t roll amazingly but better than my marathons.

Is the Pirelli Cinturato Velo still the best go to 35/38 winter tyre for sloppy roads etx? Anyone measured up a 35c for true width?
-
• #9350
yep, wet grip is great but they roll slow in comparison to a fast road tyre. they came up true to width on my 21mm wide rim
Thanks! Went for Stan's in the end. Seems like it's pretty much the standard. Can't wait to fuck it up and spill goo everywhere.
