  • But you can get a massage gun from Amazon for £40!

  • But where would be the fun in that?

  • Ha, I saw somebody on the other side of the street earlier today wearing shorts just like that (alas without the tights) and thought to myself "wow, those are amazing and ridiculous at the same time", had to admit he did pull it off though (also wearing a fat mustache and a trucker hat and aviator glasses 😅)

Speaking about tights (as in: two-in-one shorts) - why are there so little running shorts without them / without liners? Especially short ones? Everybody seems to agree that running without liner / adding a "custom" one yourself is way more comfortable?

  • Well, yes, I can see the jigsaw version could be a lot more fun!

Why stop there though, maybe an SDS chisel version?

  • Satisfy have done some great articles about ultra runners and they have a punk edge.

I'm not sure everyone agrees that running without a liner is preferable though, especially with the shorter shorts! The Satisfy liners are normally built to take energy gels for Ultra runners though so they do double duty.

  • maybe an SDS chisel version?

  • Satisfy gear is really nice (should be for the price). I like the aesthetic of some of their stuff, some is too much for me but always been impressed by the way everything is put together and it’s well thought out design

  • Everybody seems to agree that running without liner / adding a "custom" one yourself is way more comfortable?

    I don't

  • Ludicrous price and never heard of the brand -Not that means anything at all.
Who on earth is this stuff aimed at ?
I see that they also sell a hydration vest for £320 which astounds me.

  • I agree. Nearly picked up a Sonic Youth shirt a while back but anything of theirs I like sells out in minutes.

Their articles have been interesting too. I think they covered the team race from LA to Vegas where you can choose any route.

  • Thanks for the shin splints tips to all that provided, think I am on the right lines. I bought a theragun knock-off a few weeks back and think this will be a really useful tool for recovery, have always struggled with very tight calves and its noticeable how it loosens them up. Mine is from the brand 'EKUPUZ' (bad name), was about 30 quid and very solid.

  • Anyone run the west highland way? Missus js thinking of doing it over 3 days- 30 miles a day - rather than the one day race, and expects me to go along.

  • I’ve not run it but know most of the southern section. I’d say the first day would be the toughest, the section from Rowardennan to Inversnaid is narrow, up and down and uneven.

  • Yeah, agree - I know that area quite well. There are few stretches like that one that would be more walking than running

  • Have just got a place for the Paris marathon - nice to have something to aim for again! Anyone done it before?

  • tl;dr: Shoe recommendations for long runs on trails in the South West.

After 2 years living and running in the rugged coastal mountains of BC, Canada, I'm returning to live in the South West and am looking for shoe recommendations for local trails. I'd like something I can wear on muddy farm trails, woodland paths and routes like the SWCT, and something comfy for long runs (4-5hrs) is crucial. The shoes I wear here are definitely more geared towards gripping well on granite slab, and durability scrambling (Scarpa Ribelle*, Arcteryx Norvan). Hoka Torrents are a shoe I've enjoyed before, but they fell apart very quickly. I have wide-ish feet, and hated Altras.

    Any help much appreciated!

    • I love the Ribelle shoes, but had to warranty two pairs after they started coming apart where the upper/sole meet after <100km.
  • I've had a lot of success with Walsh PB extreme shoes, but my feet are narrow. They fit like slippers.

They do a wide version but I've never tried them

  • Yes, it’s got a good start end and middle but the bits in between are pretty meh, aid stations were very old school with sugar cubes and oranges when I did it although that was in 2012 so things may have moved on, biggest thing was gps dropping out in all the tunnels/underpasses, my watch being set to auto pause and then spending the rest of the run trying to work out when I crossed the start line and how I was doing against my plan… turned out I was wrong … 3:30:25 result still stings and I’ve never used the auto pause function since!

  • I’ve really enjoyed inov8 so over the years and similarly have wide ish feet but don’t like altras. Biggest issue is they don’t last long though but they can usually be picked up pretty cheaply on sportsshoes but I found 200k was about what I’d get out of them, which is fine when they’re discounted to £40 but full asking price would piss me off..

As a result I picked up a pair of Nike wildhorse 7s for last winter, my runs area mix of sloppy tracks along the edge of fields, fine gravel hills and really sludgey woodland tracks, I wouldn’t say the grip in the really muddy bits is remarkable but it’s good enough.

  • Had a watch of that on the turbo yesterday and quite enjoyed it.
Chatted to him briefly at Hyrox in April

  • Anyone have recommendations for a wide fitting trail shoe for flat feet?
I've used Altra, but they burst at the seams after a few weeks and overall don't seem durable. The same happened with Hoka when I used them.
My favourite and go to brand is Saucony, but they've really let their last couple of runs of trail shoes slip in quality. They claim "streamlining" but only of their finances as the shoes just feel cheaply made now.

  • ^ Inov8?
