  • thanks folks - had the meters reset (they were pay as yo go) and since changed to a smart meter, so that side of things was sorted way back when.

    will drop the debt collectors an email with a burner account, as i'd rather they didn't have my number.

  • I had a Bailiff come round to ours for this same thing, I just proved who I was etc and they haven't been back since.

  • FWIW, we used to get loads and loads of these letters in our old house. Most of the time I just did the return to sender thing which worked, but I had to phone a few and they were all totally fine and polite about it. They know there is only a slim chance of that person being at the address, but sending letters is cheap so they give it a crack.

    I've called them a few times for a similar issue at my place and I had no issues. Most of the time they were grateful for the call and I've not had any comms ever since.

  • I'd send a letter recorded delivery with the unopened letter from them attached. State date of purchase and the lack of a forwarding address. Last thing you want is a judgement against the address that you'll never know about and then coming home to changed locks.
