Love that overloaded basket kept together by the real MVP: the bungee net. Looks like fun times. Hello from Odder :)

Got started on this Witslingers X Hulsroy Stem Rack today.
@Tijmen asked me to make it a while back and sent through some sketched and we agreed to swap services if I made him the stem and rack he'd make me some boutique bags, but now it's ended up being a project where we might actually try and sell it as a product. We will see how the prototype goes.Anyways, I am making the the stem and rack and @Tijmen is making the bag obviously.

Exciting! This kind of thing seems a real gap in the market for rando style bags on modern bikes (with carbon forks).
-
• #6358
Well it's probably a bit niche with people who want carbon forks but steel stems :)
I reckon it's also for classic looking steel road bikes with forks without mid blade eyelets. Make your road bike og fixeh audax ready.. maybe

That's very nice !
Remind me of this one : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/milesgibbons/jack-the-bike-rack -

Yes and that is probably also smarter and cheaper. Pura is a bit more custom with the rack and stem fitting together.
There is sketches for a more universal design also but I think we agree custom is most interesting to work with. Plenty other doing universal fits all -

Looks very nice! Have you thought about adding the ability to run struts like on the Bagman?
-

It's an interesting design, how will you test it? It looks like it would be quite bouncy, and there will be significant shear loading on the bolts.
-

It definitely helps, and given big / strong enough bolts, stem wall thickness etc I don't see an issue. However a lot of the force on that bolt under the stem will be trying to shear the head off.

Good points. Other have done four bolt faceplate rack (eg. Hunter Cycles).
Maybe I will spec black hardende M6 bolt rather than stainless.
I have a feeling the rack will bend before bolts shear. But atlas I am no engineer.Re bouncyness. I think that a bit of flex doesn't matter and my thinking is surely its better than the klickfix stystem or voile straps+drybags+foam spacers??

Not sure if that makes sense. Then better to get an actual rack this is for a small 150x150x260mm rando bag for snacks and clothes

M6 is already a good choice over M5, plenty of people I'm sure have overloaded a Bagman which relies on a single M6 bolt. The advantages that Voile straps or klickfix have over a system like this is that the fatigue loads of it bouncing around aren't applied directly to bolt heads. Voile straps are inherently elastic, and the failure mode of klickfix is just rotating around the bars.
I have no doubts that made properly, this system could be a decent compromise of weight and strength, and I would trust you to make it properly! -

I'll do my best

Progression on the stem.
Also made the faceplate binders but didn't take photos.
I feel the flue coming on. Was hoping to finish this project this week but I am feeling mega weak.

This was the easy bit. No real strategy for doing the rest yet.
