I really like my old Chapeau stripy cotton café jersey. They don't make it any more. Anyone got any recommendations for something similar?

Endura used to make a sonic-welded three layer tight - Stealth-Lite biblong waterproof bib-tights - if you can track down a pair, but was like riding in a wetsuit without the nice bouncy stretch of neoprene.

If the waterproofing is critical, go for a decent pair of overtrousers. More versatile to layer up as you need, and more comfortable in movement.

Usually ride in Rapha Randonee 'baggy' shorts over liners recently, but after getting soaked the other day, think for autumn I'd like to get some 3/4 bibs (or at least a bit longer in the leg) that are a bit more comfortable when wet, maybe offer a bit of protection.

Anyone recommend anything suitable?

I have a pair of Pearl izum longs (no pad) which are a stretchy soft-shell material, zippers at the bottom and a hidden ‘gravel riding’ type pocket on one thigh for energy bar etc.

Forgot i bought them as i couldn’t do much cycling over the last winter but just tried them on and they are quite stretchy, probably not 100% waterproof though.
I have pair of Scott MTB goretex packlite overshorts for any downpours when out on the brompton, they will at least keep the rain off the top half of your legs.

have a pair of no-rain sportful bibs but they don’t seem to do much now as they have been washed loads.

Can anyone recommend padded underwear, so I can wear street trousers on my absurd saddle?

Not heard anyone say anything nice about those vulpine boxers... but open to having that proved wrong.

Am happy with some gore c3 liner shorts but whatever you get, you won't want to spend time in them off the bike.

I do prefer non padded myself, but have plenty of other Vulpine gear that is good quality and well made.

are these any good? thinking for my father in law but I can't see padded wool pants lasting more than 10 minutes

I couldn't give an opinion here- I only suggested these as Nick specifically asked for padded underwear. I prefer them without the padding and bought some Rapha merino ones in a sale a while back and they have lasted ok.

I donated one of these to the shop I work in and I think it's still there, what size are you after?

Decent shout on the Smith London caps. Nice tastefully sized peak. Shame they're just cotton (not much cop if it rains) but still good.

Glad you like it. Cotton kills, so they say. Mountain rescue teams I mean. People hiking in jeans get hypothermia. So we need cotton caps for hot days and polyester ones for the cold. I've asked Smith if they can make caps with fabric supplied by the customer. No reply yet.

Can’t speak to that particular product but they’re decent quality. The gear is made in Europe in the same factory as Pas Normal, uses recycled fabrics etc but that’s probably not much of an advantage compared to patagonia

You’re buying the aesthetic for the most part, so it depends how important to you that is
