  • You have to sit in them to know. I found if it had a convex curve at the lip where my back/shoulders/neck would go it was much more comfortable than if it the concave of the bath just turned 90 degrees to become the flat horizontal “top” if that makes any sense.

There were two German steel brands that had various models that did this - Bette and Kaldewei. Ended up buying something based on comfort which was nothing at all like I expected.

  • That is a beast. I'll try go to a bath store and try some out. @t.o.+ Good point
But water is free here as from the stream so no issue, except that we have immersion tank.

  • I rate this one - its got narrow ledges so is wider than a normal bath at the base. I feel better standing in it with the wider footprint, and baths aren't awful in our little 1500mm long one. I'm 197cm.

  • EG this:

[I am 198cm tall, the bath was 1800, but a smaller one without a hard ridge sticking into my back would also have been fine.]

  • Looks comfy. Unintentional 1cm-up-man-ship!

  • will try find out later

  • Have got Bette steel. Can confirm it’s super comfy.

  • If you are buying a bath to fit a tall person but you have a small partner, be aware that a too-long bath isn't great either.

I got a 1700 long bette and have to use an old lady bathmat to stop me sliding underwater. With hindsight should have got either a shorter bath or a double-ended one like t.o. posted.

  • At some size of bath don't you have to think about reinforcing your floor? I can't imagine the average joist loves having 600 litres resting on it.

  • We keep getting letters from debt collectors addressed to the previous owner of the house, who left c.£300 debt on the meters when we got the keys. I've tried returning to sender with a note to say 'not here/sold house December 2021' but no change. Also messaged the estate agents as there were hundreds of other letters too (absent landlord).

Continue to ignore them/indefinitely put them in a pile in the meter cupboard? Send email to debt collection firm (haven't opened letters, but can see through the plastic window/if i hold up to the light)?

for all the paperwork involved in buying/selling a house, seems bonkers that you can get away with not proving there's no outstanding debts like this.

  • Me again!

I believe the forum's collective recommendation is Zinsser AllCoat Exterior, with their Bullseye 123 as a primer/undercoat.

  • Just phone the provider/debt collector? Presumably had to provide readings? There was outstanding debt on my meters when I moved in and the providers reset it.

  • IANAL but I think you are allowed to open post delivered to someone else your address if you have a reasonable excuse? Getting in touch with the sender to correct their mistake sounds pretty reasonable for me.

  • thanks folks - had the meters reset (they were pay as yo go) and since changed to a smart meter, so that side of things was sorted way back when.

will drop the debt collectors an email with a burner account, as i'd rather they didn't have my number.

  • I had a Bailiff come round to ours for this same thing, I just proved who I was etc and they haven't been back since.

  • Still get the odd letter from other companies tho

  • good to know - have emailed the collectors and included a link to rightmove that shows the sale of the house and noted that Land Registry's been updated too - so can forward them a copy of the deeds if they really need (but tbh they can buy a copy themselves).

  • Amazing, thank you.
My house is getting very close to full forum spec.

  • FWIW, we used to get loads and loads of these letters in our old house. Most of the time I just did the return to sender thing which worked, but I had to phone a few and they were all totally fine and polite about it. They know there is only a slim chance of that person being at the address, but sending letters is cheap so they give it a crack.

  • Same situation here. I just had to show them My ID and a recent council tax document. That was the end of it.

  • As @hvsds says Zinsser is good but it's also fairly expensive and you might only need that combination if there is staining etc @Airhead would be the best person to ask :)

  • good stuff, glad there's not only horror stories out there :)

also just put your old sparkly silver probably Zeus bike back together this weekend after bringing it back from my in-laws' - as enjoyable as ever!

  • will drop the debt collectors an email with a burner account, as i'd rather they didn't have my number.

I've called them a few times for a similar issue at my place and I had no issues. Most of the time they were grateful for the call and I've not had any comms ever since.

Oh fantastic, I'd forgotten who'd bought that. Post pics in the current projects thread - Id like to see how you built it.

  • For most stuff you can use the primer (not so spendy) then all coat (spendy) for a bullet proof finish. Bullseye as prep if there's particularly knotty wood involved (will need a separate knot blocker with it) or an oily surface like window putty.
