  • If you sand it, at all, sander often 'falls into' the joint and leaves a subtle trench. TBF I did have one wall last month that I had to revisit as wall had a light below it and stood out quite badly.
Using a sander with a large diameter (10"+) and fine grit only (240+) and it won't happen.

  • Re-install or buy new and run it length-wise? Joints along there might be an issue though.

  • Learning to fill so there’s a high point in the middle of the joint definitely helped me when sanding too.
And then depending on how long it’s dried for makes a massive difference. Sand too soon and it’s like marshmallow, but leave it to fully cure and it seems to go mega hard and you risk sanding through the paper either side of the joint when trying to level it.
Preaching to the choir I know.

In a funny way I actually miss doing it. Spent that bloody long getting good at it, and now it’s not needed in my new job.

  • I guess I could, but I'd have to add a lot of bracing otherwise the fascia is just going to be dangling off the tips of those joists?

  • Thanks for this - I just googled it and I think it might be a goer

  • That sounds like something that someone a lot more competent than me would do :D

    Horizontal corrugation is clever though

  • Don’t think so no

  • Okay thank you 👍🏻

  • Pleased with how the spur looks in the end. Photo picks up minor paint texture differences but they’re not visible to the naked eye.

    Now to assemble the cabinet.

Been building it up in the garage but glueup needs to happen in situ as it’s the entire rooms width.

  • You're such a DIY pro

  • Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not but I’m going to take it as a compliment 😅

  • Just admiration!

  • No point paying for oak if it's going to be painted

  • Okay pine it is then!

  • Anyone had any success cleaning their own gutters? Don’t fancy climbing a ladder so wondering if there’s a device folks would recommend.

  • Did ours for years, what worked best? My gloveless hand. Tools took too long, water didn't get everything and having gloves on made it more difficult to know what exactly I was doing.

Much of this could be applied to other situations as well.

  • By actual hand works fine, and I need to do mine as the rain last night leaked into my son's bedroom and nearly flooded us.

Pressure washer might work but the crud would end up literally everywhere

  • I’m happy to do it by hand - and I do the accessible rear gutters that way - but the front means working at a bit of height and I’m not stoked about that :(

  • I need to fix a 7m high gutter soon!

I'd either rent a access platform for a day to clean them, or get a ladder with a standoff and supports, plus a friend.

  • If you need a tool to help there's a thing called a gutter scoop which can be useful in some situations. Or the drop flap on plumbers rods.

With mine it's an annual chore to empty the hopper but the gutters take care of themselves.

  • Can anyone recommend a really confidence inspiring ladder?!

  • Get a friend to hold the bottom of the ladder - or better still, get a friend to clear the gutter while you hold the ladder

  • I just purchased a Krause Monto with their standoff accessory.

Could also look at getting stabiliser legs.

  • Anyone have recommendations for shed paint? Ideally I would like to repaint the shed as infrequently as possible, for the lowest cost possible…
