  • Things must have changed in the tyre wear world since I was last on two wheels. 3000 was the most miles ever and the tyres were completely gone. One week in the IOM - went with brand new tyres - came home needing new tyres - I think 700 miles done.

  • Had a fab long weekend, went down to visit friends in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, did nigh on 700 miles on the Beemer.

Finally sorting out what works for me with the sat nav. Multi stops and no motorways seems to head off Google's propensity for re-routing.

Only trouble is after a day's spirited riding with sat nav headphones (and a loud bike), my ears were properly ringing. Note this will be from wind and exhaust not the sat nav as it only speaks once in a while.

I might try one of the Beeline handlebar thingies as I need to protect what hearing I have left.

Reluctant to fit my phone to the handlebars as being an artist my main usage of the thing is for photography and there are many stories of the vibration damaging the camera.

Anyone found a good noise or visual solution to sat nav woes?

I've had mine for a year but @hugo7 & @Chak have also recently purchased them.

Lovely Beemer. The colour is ace.

  • What soul said.

  • Thanks.

Colour is gold metal flake with a candy apple red top coat - I'm such a tart!

How is the noise cancelling? Thorough?

  • Noise cancelling is ace. I can still hear the engine but it’s reduced by maybe 80-90%. Buffeting from the wind is 90% with all of the bass parts (the bits that hurt your ears) removed.

I’ve used them for 8 hour days without fatigue.

  • Logistics.

  • I use a Beeline and get on well with it. People either gel with it or don’t as it’s literally an arrow with a bit of info on the next junction. You do miss the map sometimes when you fancy doing a quick diversion to avoid a particular area or where there’s two side roads close together and you’re unsure whether you should be taking the first or second one. As with Google maps though, having waypoints to force it to the roads you want to use is key.

  • Wonder if some of you should join a motorbike forum.

  • It was more of a no descript I want attention so I'm being cryptic so people ask me am I ok hun. So thank you.

  • More of a throw away joke comment and serious that MV new bike bike that there will be someone that will be able to help.

  • I’m on a few, some have good threads about cycling

  • Why, do any of us cycle any more?

Was really a flippant comment, I know lots about the bikes I have owned and spent far too much time repairing. Things like MV new bike, are nower days quite niche knowledge on how to work on and things particular to the model. At a guess that bike has points for timing and no idea how to set them up so a niche forum would be more help than us to aid getting the bike working.

Maybe I am too thin skinned at at the mo....or just not able to take a joke/humour.

    Stay safe

PS the pistonheads cycle forum is a nice group of people, like here over all.

  • Over the bow...hard astern...

  • I’ll probably get around to joining the Matchless and AJS forum at some point but I’ve already been reading a lot on there which I can do passively ie without having to interact with a new group of people.

I am pretty antisocial so dealing with a group that I already sort of know, perhaps not individually but I know that there’s some values that are (generally) shared on here makes me a bit more comfortable.

  • Same. I'm on triumphrat. As well as being quite US focused it just feels more natural to post on here.

There is probably a laziness element too tho. There is one motorcycle thread here, whereas over there I need to think about where to post and the thread hygiene isn't as good as it is here.

  • I joined ADVrider and struggle to post there. Same for Thumpertalk. But lurking? Yup.

  • I've been using Google over headphones with no visual. That has mostly worked, but does involves some self directed "oh bugger" U turns.

Thanks all for the info and feedback.

  • Long piece (part review, part hagiography) on the motikom.

At this time I'm more likely to get a 2nd hand beeline as my only requirement is navigation and less noise (foam ear plugs work for me).

IF I was to start riding with a pillion or with a riding partner then I would certainly consider getting one.

They've updated the review a lot since I first read it but it was that article that made me pick them up.

  • Thats's on next weekend (10th-11th). I will be there on the bike.

  • From Cleobury last year. Bantam on top of Clee Hill and the best bike in show. Beautiful engine.

  • From the 2015 show, pretty much one of each post-war model of Bown.
Mine's the blue one, winner of the 'Best Welsh Moped Rescued from a Number Plate Dealer's Skip' category.
    I kid you not.
