E bike recommendation for FIL

Posted on
  • The father in law (mid 60s) has decided to get himself into better shape this year, and would like to do some cycling, which I think is great. He lives in a pretty hilly area though, and would like a bit of help on the hills, so has decided an e-bike is the way forward. Again, great idea IMO.

Now the problem is, he's asked for my advice on choosing one. I know bugger all about e-bikes, so I'm hoping someone on here has some expertise.

He'd prefer flat bar, and the budget is £2k, though he'd rather spend less if he can. It needs to be something in stock or with a short (and reliable) lead time.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Google/the usual review websites are proving less helpful than I'd hoped. Thanks in advance.

  • Vanmoof look good

  • Reise and muller.

  • Liz has a gazelle and has put over 500 miles on it for work and shopping in 8 weeks, so far so good.

  • Not sure if they do the model anymore, but the Orbea Gain seems decent.

My partner's father took up cycling about 18 months ago at the age of 72 and also lives in quite a hilly area. He bought a flat bar Gain, and has really enjoyed it so far with no real issues. He put over 8000 km on it during 2021 and has lost an incredible amount of weight!

  • My mate has a Go-cycle folding bike and he love it .has loads of power Assist.
