should be HDMI 2.1 for that rez.
if it works direct with display port then it’s the dock or cable.

Ok I guess I need a new HDMI cable then. Any type in particular or are they much of a muchness?

no idea! i only ever use display port as i have a high end Eizo graphics monitor.
will have to be HDMI 2.1 compliant whatever you get but try a direct display port cable to see if your mac will do that size display.
