  • What are the options for slightly changing the gearing on a 6 speed Brompton? I often find that 4th is too low for general flattish rides, and 5th is a bit too high. That wouldn’t be so much of an issue if the 4th to 5th shift, the shift I make most often, didn’t involve both derailleur and hub changes.

Just live with it or is there a straightforward change of cog or chainring that might shift the whole range so that the most used shift is just the derailleur?

  • Missed that, thanks. Running that through the gear calculator (if I was to keep the stock chainring) it seems to give me similar awkwardness, just in a different place, unless I am mistaken. Works really well for a straightforward 2sp to 3sp conversion, though.

I’m leaning towards a simple change of chainring or sprockets to minimise the outlay.
