• Ha, it’s the sand bar in the middle of the river at low tide…they both swam over to it for a walk.

Benny tends to cut corners and wait a lot. So while Olive with runs round in circles Benny will stand still till she is close enough and just run for 10 to 15m.

Olive got hit once, then realised that if she kept on running he would give up..

  • On the theme of soggy woofers - Mavis eventually got dragged out on the paddleboard, was a bit apprehensive at first despite usually throwing herself into every available river/loch/puddle but I reckon that's because she doesn't like sitting still for longer than 30 seconds at a time.

  • Sad state of affairs last night, my girlfriend was out with Nori and came across a dog that had been tied up in the park. Some guy then let her know that he'd just seen a woman tie it up and leave it. The dog was old, clearly distressed and had a tumour on the back of her leg but otherwise looked in ok health and was very gentle. After ringing round all the rescue/welfare centres and finding none of them operate outside of daytime hours now we managed to find a 24 hour vets that said they would take her if we brought her too them. I popped her in the back of my car and she just lay down and looked defeated, heartbreaking to see a dog with so little spirit. Anyway Medivets in Beckenham were really helpful and i'll call them later today for an update.

  • Aw that's sad. Earlier this week while walking mine we ran in to two kids, must have been 13-ish I reckon who had a nice Cocker Spaniel with them. The kids said they found her on the street about a month ago, took her to the vet who contacted the original owners but they said they didn't want her any more. She's about 5 and has had at least 2 litters, very sweet and loves chasing a ball. Glad someone found her who can take care of her even the parents seem absent. The worst part is I think I saw this same Spaniel being walked by some of the local traveller kids around this time last year. They had another Spaniel with them then and I never saw the dogs again after that one time. I reckon they got a few litters out then dumped the pair.

  • The fucks wrong with people

  • Medivet are a very large company with hundreds of branches so I think it's difficult to issue a blanket recommendation but after using the SE1, Camberwell, Greenwich, Beckenham and Woolwich(I think) branches for various routine and emergency requirements for a cat, dog and a couple of rodents I can say that we've been impressed by the caring staff we've encountered. Glad they could help.

  • Fucking hell, that's unbelievable. Proper lump in my throat thinking about it! Amazing work from you getting her the help she needs. Imagine being that much of a piece of shit.

  • I was at a friends with my dog Luna until around midnight almost a week ago.
When I left the side door of my van slid open. I got out and closed it, jumped back in and drove off. Luna had got out and I never noticed. Her lead was trapped in the door. I dragged her down the road, maybe 400 yards.

    It happened on Tuesday
By Thursday I was being quoted £30 k for her treatment so we were going to have to get her put down and then like a miracle a vet offered to cap the fees and fix her up. She’s had 4 operations and one more to go. She may be home next weekend.

  • Oh my. I hope you're both okay. Be kind to yourself.

  • Our vet recommended Plaque Off or Plaque Away, we tried the former and it seems to have done an ok job (no plaque on back teeth now).

The products are meant to work by making plaque less solid, so the dog's food/mouth can then remove the plaque build up.

Brushing at the same time is better still (if you can).

  • Poor Luna! How is she in herself? She looks pretty chipper in that first photo.

  • Horrible accident, animals are traditionally arseholes for getting in the way so don't be too hard on yourself.

  • That must of been awful, hope you're both doing ok and best of luck for next week.

  • Positive news on the abandoned dog front, a rescue charity came and collected her the following day and will try and re-home her.

Slightly odd that the vets won't disclose which charity she's gone to so i'll call the Lewisham dog warden tomorrow and see if i can get some details. Don't have the space or finances for another dog right now but i'd like to drop her a care package in if i can.

  • That’s the first comment anyone has made that’s actually made me feel better.
From now on it’s all her fault.

  • But I do appreciate all the love I’ve had from so many people.

  • We use Lily's Kitchen Woofbrush seaweed chews. They come in different sizes. Seems to have made a visible difference to Comet's teeth and he loves them. Before we had seaweed powder that went in his food. Not sure that did anything at all.

  • Amazing of the vet to cap the fees and glad Luna wasn't worse. Dogs heal quick, she'll be running around in no time.

  • Hope you're both doing well!

Our old dog jumped out of my wife's dad's van unnoticed when he stopped for petrol one day - was only when he was merging back onto the motorway he noticed a pomeranian in the rear view mirror trying desperately to catch up amidst the screeching of brakes & the sounding of horns...

edit - just to be clear he managed to get him eventually

  • it’s nice to have friendly neighbours

  • Love the half painted white thing.

  • Ha! I did ask if they’d like their side doing - but then it wouldn’t match their other gate post-stone-thingy on the other side

  • Are puppy wanted ads acceptable here? We're looking for a female staffie or staffie X puppy. Don't want anything too fancy - half the online ads seem to be for £2.5K blues with extensive KC bloodlines. Beyond a slight preference for a darker coloured dog we're pretty open to anything. Ideally just want a choice of puppies that can be seen with the mum in advance and ideally not too far from London. Though will travel if necessary.

  • Rescue?

  • Rescue?

I know morally it's the right thing to do, but having wanted a dog for years I'm keen to have the whole puppy experience + get it used to the children from the start, etc, etc.
Obviously if it was possible to get an 8ish week old rescue puppy I would, but am assuming that isn't easy.
