Spinach likes cooler weather.
Try growing chard or spinach beet in the warmer months -

10+ hours of steady rain here. First decent rain in about a month.

Ate the couple of decent sweetcorn we got and they were shite. Gave them to the chickens in the end. Also picked up about 14 60x60cm slabs to lay a greenhouse base. Each one comfortably heavier than my 6yo. Car was struggling a lot with all that.
Grabbed a couple of lettuces as they looked pretty good. Lettuce after spuds seems to work great.

My tomatoes are reflowering. Anyone else in this position?
Mine never got started, however a couple of squash plants which have essentially fully mature squash attached have turned their attention to setting some new fruit. two of which look like they might make it to maturity if September is reasonable.

I’ve got some tomato plants. The biggest annoyingly, that flowered and then nothing. The rest just keep going.
If I keep my tomatoes warm and use a uv lamp, could I keep them going longer?
-
• #3212
Not an expert but I wouldn’t bother with a lamp. Just get them in a greenhouse and see what happens.

Couple of squash that have appeared in the last few weeks. Hoping they get enough sun to make it.

Went to pick my beetroot today. It’s ALL been nibbled or completely eaten. Presumably mice and voles.
How else can you grow beetroot without the little cunts getting at it.

Boom. Nuff kg of tomatoes today, sack of chillis, beets, courgette, chard, corn and a huge amount of almonds(I’ve barely done 10% of the tree)
Not bad.

Impressive haul.

All those almonds amount to about 1.5cups once shelled. Def v labour intensive..

Lovely stuff! My tomato haul continues to disappoint on almost every level.

That corn!

It’s a little bit tougher than sweetcorn and growing it has been hit or miss but it tastes fantastic.
Tbh we’ll prob just do regular sweetcorn next year as it’s more pest resistant as well. -

My understanding is that the gem varieties like that were historically ground for flour? It looks 10/10 though.

Yup, we’ve had it a few years and it’s done the job. First got it for mushrooms and done all sorts in there since. I’m expecting about 6-8hrs on medium temp for the chillis.
This ^
Possibly due to the heat/drought.
