Re re Nazi memorabilia: I have a csb from 2004-6 ish.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin. We had a request from a police station to assist in a warrant to search for evidence of reactivation of officially deactivated firearms. I wasn’t privy to the details from the informant but the warrant was granted so we went to a classic car hire business owned and run by a Mr Dicks (name changed, though relevent) at his home address. He was a registered firearms certificate holder. Anyway this guy was very accommodating and was very helpful and we were given access to his massive double garage. His wife and two young daughters were always nearby and he seemed like a nice chap.
It was like a shrine to all things Nazi. He had absolutely everything you could think of that was owned or touched by Hitler, Göring, Himmler etc. but he was adamant that he was not a Nazi just an avid collector. We seized a couple of hundred firearms and left. A few weeks later he got all the weapons back as they were all legal, end of story.
HOWEVER about 18 months later we were requested again for a search of Mr Dicks’ premises. This time it was following a report from his eldest daughter regarding herself and her fears for her soon to be 10 years old sister. The age of 10 was when her sexual abuse started and she expected the same for her sister. We found a lot of very relevant items which corroborated all aspects of the complaint and he was subsequently convicted.
So in this story Nazi memorabilia was owned by someone who seemed alright but turned out to be a proper wrong’un.
Re Nazi memorabilia: have to say I was quite surprised to find a 'fully illustrated and unexpurgated' serialisation of Mein Kampf for sale in East Dulwich market just now. In between the reclaimed rugs and artisanal popcorn.
Edit: I didn't ask the price, but the stallholder did genuinely offer me a box of declassified US military secret documents for £1250.
