  • I am thinking of getting chorus 12 speed mechanical. But I really don’t like the style of the current chainsets. I have an old (2012 I think) 11 speed Athena chain set to hand. Can I use it with the rest of the 12 speed group?

If it won’t work, how do aftermarket chainrings work? Like this one for example which claims compatibility with all 10, 11 and 12 speed groups, presumably meaning Shimano and campagnolo.

  • 12sp chainline is 1mm wider, the chainrings 0.4mm closer.
It might work but getting the front derailleur trim right will be tricky.
Woe is me, gone are the days of micro ratchet FD shifting.

Rotor chainrings you linked are not 12sp compatible as far as I can tell
and won't work with Campag specific 110/112 BCD without bodging.

The 4arm cranks grow on you. :)

  • I am using Chorus 12 with an Athena 11sp chainset. It works fine.

Annoyingly, the front derailleur doesn't trim in the same way that 10sp did. So there can be some rub in big/big. But obviously no-one would /ever/ dream of using that combination.
