Anyone used the Dia Compe guards? https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Dia-Compe-ENE-F-2-Mudguard-Set_225365.htm

I’ve had some. Bad pic to illustrate. I found some for around £35 a few years back. I remember them being considerably easier to fit than either GB or Velo Orange equivalents and sturdier than the VO’s. But, they were probs a tad short - flaps helped but didn’t eliminate this. Overall I really liked them though. They were pretty looking and really solid.

Thanks! May i ask how you attached the flaps?

Drilled some holes roughly in the right place but not quite the right place, almost straight but not quite straight and then popped some raw flaps on.
I think these are the exact type I had which I think are just a smooth version of what you're looking at.
Honestly though after playing with many types of guards, I'd just get something SKS these days...

+1 for this

Thanks! I’m currently running SKS, they’re a bit knackered and I like the metal look. But will consider again.

Anyone got one of these on a PDW? https://isenworkshop.com/product/isen-workshop-mudguard-light-mount/
Does the light beam bounce around?
-
• #5335
I did indeed and no, no bouncing. Great mount.

The joys of buying stuff on eBay, especially "fitted, never used"
I wonder why...

Mudguard question.
Having moved to 38c tyres I've got two mudguard options. What's better,
a) 60mm guards that look a bit wide for the tyre, but better coverage, less aero as wind catches overhang?
b) 45mm mudguards that look quite narrow, less coverage sideways but look sleeker?

Edit the 60s are already on the bike, so less faff

Personally wouldn't be able to tolerate 60mm over 38 and would HAVE to swap.
-
• #5340
Do you care about the potential aero disadvantage?
I run 60mm mudguards over 42c tyres and feel fine.
Run it for a while and see if it ends up bugging you. You can always install new mudguards at a later date. -

Yep true. Looks like this.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

That's a bit chonk. I would definitely go for 45 personally

That looks great for Actual Mud clearance. Close-fitting mudguards are a PITA on anything other than clean roads. Perhaps more relevant if you're running knobbly tyres.
Or just run bigger tyres.

If they made Paselas in 42's I would, but I don't know of anything with a similar tread pattern in a 40/42 tbh. Not flush enough for £90 a tyre Rene Herses....
Bike won't be touching mud mud over winter, just muddy lanes and stoney gravel (think new forest).

I’d ride this to dry-ass-ville without issue. A bit too much coverage is better than nearly enough coverage.

Continental Sport Contact is a great cheap tire that’s available in a 42.
-
• #5348
I think Contact Speed is the newer name.

• #5349
Also if you need to lose some weight / gain muscle mass, there's Vittoria Randonneur in 42 allegedly.

Contact Speed
I'll keep an eye out, the 42' seems to be out of stock everywhere on google.
That’s about my level of bodge!
