You're fine with both sets of units because you are a clever person who also grew up using the daft things. I have vague memories of the stupid units as a child and I'm nearly 40, anything Imperial instantly confuses me just because I never had to grow up using it, and have had mercifully little contact with it since, most people 45ish and below are the same. Stuff should have to be sold in sensible metric measures and just as they always have been able to, people can also put whatever daft archaic measurement alongside it they wish. Pints and miles excluded obviously.
I'm fine with either set of units, and beyond defining standards the government can fuck off and leave it to businesses whether to display one, the other or both, but most of the flag shaggers are too ignorant to know that Imperial measures were actually redefined in terms of SI units at some point. My first copy of BS308 gave the conversion of the inch as 25.399...mm, but the inch is now officially exactly 25.4mm
