Ride around Southsea, was a pretty cool looking VW show, but didn't have the time to go in unfortunately!

I have been frustrated since the start of the pandemic... I made my digital SLR my webcam. I do love that... it's clear, the bokeh is gorgeous, it's great in low light... the whole everything about it I appreciate deeply.
But... I haven't really done photography out in the world since except on a phone camera. I miss taking photographs. And recently when I've sync'd all my phone photos locally and have been able to view them locally it made me really appreciate how much I prefer photos taken on a camera.
So... I've ordered a new camera.
Really looking forward to lumping around a hunk of metal and glass again :)

Good to hear! Are you keeping the super web-cam doing that duty?
What’s the new shiny?

Yeah, it's happy where it is.
What’s the new shiny?
Just a mid range this time, a Sony A7IV with an SEL2470GM2 lens... A standard zoom thing.

Playing around on the beach. Props to the fella who rode down on his BMX with a camping chair and his own pint glass.

£3.7 from panamoz.
Really it's the lens, the lens is sublime.
The body will soon be surprised by a new generation of A7R ... But for a good while the A7IV will be the best hybrid photography and video camera. Not quite perfect at anything, but exceptional at most things.
I find myself wanting to capture the vibe of woodland, to just set the camera on a tripod and film 4k for 30 minutes.

If it helps a little I'm seriously considering this as my camera bag https://www.raeburndesign.co.uk/products/si-shark-bag-large-black
I guess I'd have to chop some foam to shape, but it should work 😁
I'm sure Chris Raeburn is on here, he can tell me how wise this is 🤣

That bag is amazing.
They released a pattern to sew one not long ago, have a complete one in my office.
Edit : a stuffed shark, not a shark bag.

New camera has arrived.
It is noticeably lighter than the older Sony a7rii I have, and the lens feels comparable or lighter than the prime lens I have. The new lens is much larger, but what surprises me there is how much more comfortable this is to hold and use... that instead of two hands on the camera body, this lens encourages one hand on it and one on the body... and the return of an aperture ring, in addition to focus and zoom rings, means the hand on the body is doing fewer things and I have more control.
Basically... I love it.
Still to get used to the new menus and really to go out and use the camera... but as it stands, with only 30 minutes play after cracking open the box... it's excellent.

Few shots from an evening ride. Wanted to test a black pro mist filter but wasn’t really finding the right thing for it so these are just vanilla, albeit with the anamorphic crop.

Not sure how I feel about applying that cinematic crop to images. It’s either adding a fake movie look with no foresight or it’s actually affected how I’m looking at stuff in camera, which is of course the preferred option.
Just wary of getting into some slightly contrived territory by the tail wagging the dog. These were out-takes from the weekly comp.

I'd like to print this out, not super big, but say on A4. Taken on a mobile phone, file is 7.6mb, will this come out ok? And if so any recommendations for online printers?

Yeah! Use the print space on kingsland road. They do very good quality C type prints (photo paper) and plenty of paper options. It’s also an RGB process so would probably get the best colour out of that image.
The photo is usually ready to pickup within a couple of hours or they post it to you.I also know another printer I use for work who have an RGB inkjet that is absolutely bonkers.
Great photo btw.
