  • Nice thanks for the user review, which cache battery do you use?

  • Have you connected lights? It shows a frame connection, presumably for earth/return?

  • Could I trouble you for a picture of how you’ve set this up?

  • Just a small one in case of emergencies. This is the one I use:

Goal Zero Flip 10 Recharger https://amzn.eu/69ucW3t

    Other retailers also sell it.

  • Yes lights are connected and the frame is earth. I connected mine back to the front light holder. It's inelegant but works.

  • I'm in Spain away from the bike but I can sketch a schematic.

  • Ah, no panic, am not in a hurryrush :)

  • Only problem now is finding a Velocity Cliffhanger 36h rim somewhere in the country..

Do you have to have Tubeless? Arkane got me a nice, fairly wide, no-name box-section rim in 36h a while back. They've been great.

  • That was @ginllfixit sorry tag malfunction

  • Not running tubeless so that's not an issue. Only problem is I'm trying to match this wheel with my rear wheel build (which was a poor attempt at matching the front wheel I'm rebuilding). Had I know it would be this difficult I wouldn't have bothered trying in the first place.

Will have a look at Arkane though, cheers

  • Yeah does sound like you had some shit luck with that first hub dying.

OK I reckon those rims are nearer 23mm internal width than 25 like Cliff Hanger, also have spoke-hole eyelets so won’t be a perfect visual match. But not a million miles off, ie modern width with a sturdy touring shape.

They won’t be on the website.

Any experience with this wheelset from Wiggle or the hub used? I think it's a rebranded KT hub, at least that's what I'm told. I was going to go with Hunt wheels with Son Dynamo but these are nearly half the price

  • My wife has a set, they've been pretty good and compare pretty well to other dynamo wheels we've used.

The only issue we have at the moment is i need to switch the rear out to 12mm but we've lost the end caps and Wiggle are unable to supply them. What configuration would you be running them in?

  • I’d choose these; hunt pretty much always go with the delux hub with is inferior to the 28 IMO.

Cost wise, hard to beat really

  • I recently had Hunt build a 28 into a wheel I was buying from them, and apparently they are switching all dynamo wheels to 28

  • I'll be running them 12mm front/rear which I think is the default configuration. What lights are you running with these?

  • Yeah 12mm Front / Rear is the out the box configuration. We ran them QR rear on an old frame and I can't find the ruddy end caps. If you were running them QR I would have offered to sell them for a decent discount.

Using them with some Exposure lights, work fine. Haven't tried charging devices off them though.

  • It's weird that the rear hub they use isn't the same as used in their other alloy prime wheelsets. Is it just the rear that you don't have the endcaps for?

  • Yeah just the rear missing. I bought replacement end caps earlier in the year but they didn't fit, after providing video that proved the end caps didn't fit they then promptly changed the rear adapters for the audax wheels to out of stock (they've been like that for about 6 months).

  • That's a bummer, saving some extra money would be useful for this build.

  • The answer to this question might be sitting in this thread somewhere but I can't find it....

Lights stoped working on my partners bike. Hadn't realised until this morning. Nothings changed with the wiring, although my first thought was to freshen the cable ends in case of any corrosion/shit built up at the hub. Hasn't helped. Both read and front are doing nothing, so it's not a bulb issue.

Any recommendations for checking output from the hub? I scratched my head looking at the multi-meter but it'd need to touch both +&-. So yeah... I then had to get myself to work and have been half mulling it over today and thought I'd put it out there as someone else might be able to answer it quicker than my brain could work it out.

    Thanks in advance

    A

  • Make sure the connector is properly connected on the hub. Just unplug it and put it back.

A meter should show something if you switch it to measure AC voltage.

  • Which hub? SP have a multimeter testing guide online somewhere. SON suggests shorting the terminals with a screwdriver and looking for sparks.

  • What's a reasonable price for handbuilt or off the shelf dynamo wheelset? I had ordered a pair off Wiggle but those now seem to have been lost in the courier network. Looking for something 650b. Hunt has a pair with Son28 at £600. I didn't want to spend that much, something closer to £400 or is that unrealistic?

  • I just built this wheelset for a friend

    sp front hub £54

    Novatec rear hub £45
    https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m20b0s117p3744/NOVATEC-F172SB-Rear-Hub
Alpina spokes £0.25 each (plus £6 postage) £24
    https://www.cyclebasket.com/m9b0s454p979/ACI_Alpina_Stainless_Steel_DB_Spokes_Silver_Singles_
Kinlin rim £19.30 each for 26"£38.60
    https://www.cyclebasket.com/m9b0s542p3590/Kinlin_ADHN_MLD_26_inch_Rim
wheel build labour cost £60 for two wheels

    total: £221.60

guess you can find an alternative 650b rim elsewhere for not much more.

I also assumed you wanted rim brake from your other recent posts, although is this for a different bike? Spa cycles does have discounted disc brake SP hubs too
