  • Can anyone point me towards a program that can crack a ms word 2007 password?

Guy I work with has managed to forget the password...

  • One has been rather dense. I kept getting 'low memory' messages on my little netbook so thought I'd uninstall some stuff I don't use. I have Office 2003 and also found Office 2000. I thought oh well there's no point in having both I'll hold onto the 2003 it being the most recent and ditch the 2000. I now can't open any of my Word docs, which I kind of need for work...

    Help!

  • what formats are the word docs in - doc/ xml/ pdf?

  • It may have fucked up the default program association for certain file types. Can you right click on one of the files, and use Open With?

Otherwise try uninstalling, and reinstalling Office (if you have the disks).

If that doesn't work, use Open Office.

  • If all else fails and you have a google/gmail account:
    https://docs.google.com

  • Thanks gents, they're all either rtf or doc files. I don't have the disks for Office. What's Open Office and will it allow me to use Excel etc. as well?. I'll try the 'open with' trick now and see what happens.

Thanks Pifko I do have gmail and can open Word docs in there (just to read) that have been sent to me (or I'm guessing that I send to myself as an attachment) but I can't open Word from anything on my desktop, or create or work on documents.

  • John H, I tried again and I think I've managed to close a dialog box wtf that means. Because Word and all docs are now opening from having tried right clicking and 'open with' so thanks very much squire!!

    :D

  • Good that it worked. If you selected to "Always use this program" it should just work fine now.

Just for your info, Open Office is a free Office alternative. It does have some issues with formatting documents slightly differently to Microsoft Office, but it's fine. But if this works you don't need it anyway.

  • Where can I still purchase Windows XP from?
    Ideally professional.
Can see a number of retailers on Ebay but all look fairly dodgy.
Not sure if the OEM versions are legitimate either.

Password protection on office docs is actually quite strong.
They are vulnerable to brute force and dictionary attacks but that will only work if your 'colleague' thinks his password is particularly simple..

I got a copy recently from the College Computer Fair. You have to press quite hard to get a legit copy, though. They'll otherwise offer you various OEM versions. The real deal is likely to set you back £89 there. Anything that's cheaper is probably not quite legit. There was one who offered me a download key (£35, I think), claiming it was exactly the same licence as the full 2002 retail pack, but I wasn't sure about that and erred on the side of caution.

  • I have to use ms word (mac) for work and frequently use track changes.

In the preferences screen for track changes I have checked that all relevant drop downs menus are set to “by author” however when I view a document the changes are all the same colour. It seems that this only applies for the first two reviewers so that if two reviewers are working on a document all edits are tracked in red, but if a third reviewer edits the document then their suggestions show up in blue. However more often than not we’re working in pairs.

This is fucking infuriating and has been driving me crazy for ages! Is there a way to fix it?

  • is it possible to have a date in word, and then another date that adds 14 days to that date?

I am trying to create a letter for work and have the automatic date at the top of the letter, in the body of the text I am asking for a reply by X (With X being 2 weeks from the date of the letter)

Otherwise I can manually add the days on and just type it, or perhaps i might just put "please respond within 2 weeks of the date of this letter"

  • There's some stuff here that may help. I got into calculated fields and shit in word a while ago but it was incredibly annoying so I gave up.
