Toon vs Citeh.. wow

Can't quite work out why we are buying Sarr, good player that he is, when we a) already have too many forward players and b) don't use wide players anyway.
Not sure Stevie knows what he's doing. Needs to turn things around pretty fast. -

Was a great game and shows why city are champions. 3.1 down bring it back to 3.3. Newcastles 2nd was a lovely goal

Really poor results/performances from the first three games despite plenty of money spent on players that aren’t an upgrade (and now Sarr!), looks like it’ll be a long season with the only hope that this year, as last, there’s a worse team in claret and blue.
That said, VAR was total bullshit yesterday, ruled out a perfectly good Palace goal and the penalty against Digne was ridiculous.

Yep. It's frustrating as there is talent in the club but not looking like he can make it gel.
VAR is and always will be shit. -
• #162007
No obviously top 10 sides played so far and only a squeaky bum time win against a poor and striker less Everton - hopefully far too early but it feels like a relegation battle is looming.

The hairdryer treatment is going to be happening in the wrong dressing room at half time.

It’s a surprise for sure.
Tuned in for a united battering this evening.

Liverpool missing Mane more than than they expected? A player of uncommon football intelligence. Hard to replace.
-
• #162012
Did his contract run out? Surprised they would let him go otherwise.
-
• #162013
Not sure. Seems a strange one. Maybe he got tired of all the caffeine and salbutamol?
-

tired of all the caffeine
Surely not

I turned on the radio to listen to the last few minutes while I did the washing up. Sam Matterface is on there banging out am-dram level histrionics. It was such an affront to both commentary and the English language, I had to turn it off after about a minute.

Good banter result tonight.

Plucky underdogs Manchester United making a play to join the big boys. Magic of the FA cup and all that.

Best Man Utd performance in a long while. Also enjoyed Ten Hag saying “they play football fucking good” on live tv in the post match interview.

tricky start to the season
we miss mane for sure, he just wanted out, i think he was klopps first signing or one of the first ? he's run a lot of miles for jurgen. the fans and media never really gave him the credit he was due, salah got more chants and more minutes than him. but he was the one who usually got us out of a pickle with important goals. i think it just gradually rankled him and he wanted to try something new. i miss him and that smile.
daren't look at the table or who our next opponent is. -

Think there’s only so many years a player can play under the amount of pressure Klopp or Guardiola puts them under. It must be physically and mentally exhausting.
-
• #162022
Someone (possibly James Horncastle) made a similar point quite a few years back about Mourinho. He emotionally exhausts his players as he brings in such a siege/us vs the world mentality. So he’s never able to stay anywhere very long.
With the kind of football klopp plays you succeed by turning the ball over and breaking incredibly quickly. Mane is a master of this. He’s always alert and always moving into the right space to receive the ball and make the break work. Doubtless Liverpool will find a way to win without him but it may take them a while.

At Dortmund his demise was triggered by losing Gotze and Lewandowski, the latter of whom was irreplaceable tbf. The circumstances of both the players departures was really destabilising and they left to strengthen their only rival, so Dortmund's form completely fell apart in Klopp's last season there. I don't see the same parallels here as Mane was arguably at the end of his run and the squad needed freshening up. Milner and Elliott are nowhere close to Liverpool's best midfield and City had a pretty poor start to last season but still came good. A new midfielder would help as Keita has been massively underwhelming considering the transfer fee, Milner is about 42 and their bench looked really lightweight last night.

Yeah but Mentality Monsters, Heavy Metal Football an' that.
That quadruple, that turned into a shite double seems a long long time ago. -

Saint Maximin is such a fun player to watch. Love him
