fuck!
I wonder if they were being chased / racing?
from a quick look on streetview, they went through a couple of barriers, off a 6ish ft drop, through a carpark taking out a couple of teslas and charging points, over a waist high ish wall somehow? and through another couple of fences, before ending up on the tracks.
40mph limit on that section...

Same two on scooters went after a guy on foot later that day, there was a dashcam video of that going around too

Blimey that RR seems to going pretty fast or is it the camera angle?
-
• #331
twitter link says 120mph but not sure if that's an estimate or verified?

The technology, power and speed of cars is incredible, but I don't understand why we aren't able to make doing 120mph in a 40mph zone is simply impossible with geo fencing, speed limiters etc.

They can do it to scooters ffs. It's not that they can't...

If the parked Tesla was up against the wall/fence next to the tracks, it could have launched the Range Rover over it? There was a lot of energy in the accident with a heavy car moving at high speed.
Incredible escape for the man in the Tesla! RIP the passenger. -

I guess the issue is who is going to keep all that data up to date?
-
• #337
from the video linked above, it looks as if the range rover may have already been barrel rolling at the point where it hit the charging points

You would need to be in an F1 car to take that A40 bend at 120mph. I wonder if the Range Rover driver had some medical episode that locked his foot on the accelerator

Local authorities make the data available and it is aggregated into sat nav systems. The database in my car sometimes lags a little, eg it doesn't know about a recent 20 limit on a previously 30 road but it is yet to be out by a factor of 3!

The driver was a male in his twenties driving a powerful car down a dual carriageway at 3.40am when it was presumably empty.

Hmmm fair point

I find that Google maps is generally ok in London (although sometimes a bit out of date) but when I'm up north there are a lot of roads where it just doesn't give a speed limit.
My car has a camera that is meant to detect speed limits and flashes on the dash when you exceed it but it's terrible. Picks up all sort of random signs from side streets and the like.

maybe I'll get a jersey made with a 20mph sign print on the back

Between the database and the camera in my car it gets the limit right more than 90% of the time. As a driver aid it is great. If it was a self driving car it would be a problem. It's good enough to be always on, certainly better than the average driver who has shown they can't be trusted.

Sweet, that is one less on the road.

Guarantee they were on their phone. Hope all are OK

Nobody around on a nice quiet street but they still find something to bang into. A few busted steering bits, no worries. Kerb is unharmed.
