• Hi all,

I’ve been slowly doing up a Raleigh Pioneer Trail (the lugged one with pannier eyelets from 1995, in battleship grey, internal cable routing in top tube) with old Deore bits I had around - I’ve cold set it to 135, serviced everything etc and I’ve just found a crack in the head tube :( not the most exciting bike but kind of had my heart set on it and it’s got lovely geo. Does anyone have one they’d be willing to sell? I’m not sure how they sold them sizing wise but I want the one that’s 21” c-t-t.

Totally open to the burgundy version (lugged) too or the lugged one without pannier eyelets (pioneer classic maybe?) if you can confirm it’s got big clearances too.

Alternatively - any other exciting mid 90s hybrid frames with big clearance (the Raleigh can take at least a 45c) anyone had - Trek 700? Marin Stinson? I’m not afraid of cold setting a 130 to a 135 - I just want nice geo and either lugs or pretty welds :)

Cheers - I’m up north so would ideal want f+f posted but happy to sort something.

  • Sorry to hear the frame is toast!

I’m moving on my Dawes Street Wise frameset … maybe your bag, maybe not?

  • Yeah was gutted when I saw the crack.

Oh yeah it’s a beut - looks like it might me one size too big as a guess, is it like a 56? Otherwise though yeah that looks spot on - what sort of tyre clearance does it have?

  • Ah damn yeah, didn’t see your size spec - think it’s a 23 inch sadly. Clearance is at least 35mm, I pushed it to 37mm with mudguards so it’s decent enough

  • Ah yeah shame - thanks though, I’d forgotten about the Dawes ‘street’ range (think there’s a Streetcruiser model too) so I’ll have a little hunt about.

  • Could you potentially have a framebuilder repair your existing frame?

  • Yeah potentially - suspect I can probably track a frame down for cheaper than the repair on the long run though! Got a lewd on a local one I’m going to go have a nose at - it’s looks absolutely wrecked from the pictures though.

  • My hazy memory says my sister has a Pioneer in her garage in Nottingham (acquired for now ex-boyfriend). Will be up there soon and can fetch it. Will get confirmation and details/pics/size/etc. and get back to you…

  • Oh amazing, thanks for thinking of it. Keep me posted and I’ll try and remember to ping you if I track one down first.

  • Just giving this a swift bump incase anything new has cropped up

  • Haven't managed to get pics from her before she went on hols. She also seems hesitant to get rid, if I read her right (she did confirm it is a pioneer, but no internal routing. So not the same, by the sounds of it). Apologies and a free bump.

  • Still on the lookout? There’s one in classifieds.
