Won’t be able to do anymore to the frame for a while, but I’m pretty excited about where this is going.
Going to try and redraw the decals and cut them and the eye design masks so when I do have time I can start painting.

cheapo drain cleaner will strip the finish from the chainring then you just need to polish back

Ooh. Thank you.

Check the ingredients for hydrochloric acid, caustic soda works but takes loads longer

More testing, this time with the vinyl masking.
Despite being a screenprinter for years I totally fucked up the order of the stencils. Oh well. This is just a test. The vinyl seems to give fairly crisp lines, I just have to be careful I don’t paint too thick. I also didn’t have any contrasting paint except some old purple paint, but it worked well enough to see if the mask will be okay.
I don’t know whether I should do the headtube decal all black with a contrasting blue outline, or half/half with the blue outline. I’m leaning towards all black.

Well my son has just tested positive to covid, so looks like I’ll be at home with a bit more free time than expected!

Downtube decals cut. Plan on the white side is to spray black, mask it with the first layer, then spray the white. Once that side is done, I’ll use the outline mask and tape to do the the border on the letters in blue (I reckon).
It all sounds like it will work well in theory… as to whether it works in real life is the question.

Thanks! You can’t really go wrong with Geoff McFetridge’s art.
It’s been fun experimenting too and to hopefully have a bike that isn’t just one or two colours.

Well the stem turned out okay. The design was pretty fine, but the image is still fairly sharp. Couple of tiny points I might be able to touch up before the clear coat.

Forks almost done. Will do the black splatter tomorrow and then clear coat them next week. The tape seems to work well. I’m hoping the splatter cover up any imperfections.

Black splatter on white done . The masking vinyl has exceeded my expectations as well. I hoping the outline mask on the letters works just as well and makes the decals really pop.

Taped up and painted the first coat of the black.
I’m in isolation (well my son is, I’m covid free at the moment), so I’m getting a friend to drop off some more paint tomorrow including some glitter flake clear coat. I’ll at least get the forks done tomorrow.

It's going to be the fanciest Reid there ever was!

Ha!
Got an iso paint delivery today. Unfortunately the weather has gone to shit which means no painting.
Still trying to figure out the seat tube colour. I was leaning towards blue, but I think I might do a dusky pink with white eye stencils and light blue outline around the downtube logos.

Christ, I do hope no one’s actually planning on painting a mid century dressing table in glitter clear coat!
I tested masking the white and painting the black. When I get around to doing the whole thing properly I’ll only be masking off half the frame once though, but I think the whole two tone thing is going to work.
