Which Tyres?

  • realistically nothing smaller then 32 IMO

mainly because if anything goes wrong when you are out it will be right pain to get off anything less than 32

also need more deets of this Di2 sequoia, how did you cable it etc

  • Come at me tyres. No tyre will beat my SuperThumbs™

Sequoia is Di2-ready. Cables go where you'd expect, ie. little hole in back of seattube, chainstay and holes in downtube where the hydro lines run.

  • Ref the tyres, I had them hanging up in the garage and thought why not? TBH I think they were a bit small, but they worked just fine.
Don’t forget the forks have dyno routing as well. :)

  • Sequoia forks have dyno routing? For serious? I did suggest I get her a dynamo setup but I didn't know that. Great bit of kit these Sequoias.

  • My girlfriend has Spesh Roubaix 30/32 on her Hed 25 internal. 700c only though I think

  • I'm to soon replace my Conti GP4000 28mm, quite happy with them so is the 5000 series the obvious choice?

Wouldn't minde a bit more "suppleness" while keeping similar puncture resistance, how do we rate the Pirelli P Zero line?

Had Vittoria Corsa Control in the past, really enjoyed the ride quality but found them fragile and a bit of a pain to mount.

  • Tried out some Paselas as a replacement for the tank-like Conti TourRides that were on my vintage bike. Much nicer and Strava says that my average power has jumped by about 10W (from risible to merely feeble). Took me a while to get used to the handling though, has anyone found the cornering a bit odd, or was it just me learning how to ride them?

  • Interesting comment on Paselas, I had them in 38, lovely ride, cornering always felt like oversteer unless pumped up super hard. Weird, so swapped out

  • There was definitely something a bit different about them. On what I thought was a flat path the front seemed to want to drift to one side (which was novel) and I had to pull it back straight. Weirdly it then seems to be quite draggy and resist turning the handlebar so that corners were done in a series of turns, rather than a smooth sweep. It seemed to resolve a bit though so it might have just been me getting used to them.

  • I've recently swapped out 38 pasela's and they were fine cornering for me, no issues or weirdness at all. I find them very small though, the 38s measured 35 on my rims.

I put some gravel king slicks on to replace them, but they punctured pushing it to the shed, so will prob put pasela's back on.

  • Just get the Contis, either 4000 or 5000. They're both amazing, more than fast enough, last ages and rarely puncture. The only reason to not buy then is aesthetics imo

  • Of all things, I wouldn't say GP5000 last ages

  • I bloody hope so at 70 quid each which i paid at condor. Fitted the front last night and they are a big difference to the previous model that was 2 inches too small. Popped up onto the rim without sealant as well. Rear is bound to fail now !

  • Are a pair of GP5000 really worth £100?

  • Depends on how much disposable income you have 😀

  • Let's say I don't have much but am terrible with money.

  • Depends how much you value a good ride as well.

  • A fair bit. Probably can't justify 100 smackers on tyres though...

  • You can get a pair for £70 on SportsPursuit IIRC.

  • Top tip! Thanks. Only in 25c though, I'm after 32c. Any suggestions for something else in a 32 that's fast rolling, grippy and puncture proof? Realistically I'm fairly happy with my slick Gravelkings, just being a tart because I bought a new frame that won't suit tanwalls as nicely.

  • I've really liked Pirelli Cinturato Velo in 32mm. Not as fast as a GP5K or Vitorria Corsa or whatever but very grippy in all weathers and very puncture proof.

  • Not a bad call! Although, speaking to my aforementioned shitness with money, if you're spending £80 on tyres, what's an extra 20? I'll probably run my perfectly fine Gravelkings in to the ground and figure out what I want then.
I'm also weighing up going tubeless. Is it worth the hassle?

They also come in all black, right?

Yes 100%. Also not nearly as much hassle as it might initially seem.

  • Yeah, just idly pondering if there's a better option!
