  • I can’t think of anyone more suited to riding this bicycle.

    One word; Moulton.

  • They should have stuck to lugs.

I'm surprised you missed the threadless steerer.

  • Any Pashley savants on the forum?
I've been intrigued by the rear rack on that bike. It's brazed on the frame and painted as per the frame, it does not look like a bodge (brazing seems decent, as far as I can say), but the setting out (super high) does not feel right (usually sits lower on pashleys) and after exploring internet I can not find another Pashley with a similar rack. Before I dremel / file the hell out of it to fit a standard Pashley one (its the kind of bike I prefer in its original setting) has anyone similar "integrated" rack on these before?

    Thanks!

  • The skinny tubing and the shape does look like an modification rather than from Pashley, remember these bike were build in huge number, this is the first time I have seen one like that.

Pashley to my knowledge usually have add-on rack (as far back as the 50's), so it's a bit weird to see one brazed on.

  • agreed...

  • Ohhh! Looks like the integrated rack is an original feature afterall!
Just found this old sales add from 2017... Oh well I'm keeping it then...

  • You know, you can ask Pashley directly?

  • I found this, but look like it’s attach rather than brazed;

  • You know, you can ask Pashley dirtectly?

I emailed them about a chain guard replacement, they told me to go to a Pashley reseller, I did, they weren't very clued up, so they called Pashley directly. Whoever from Pashley answered said they'd seen my email. (At some point the shop assistant said "I can't say that the customer is in front of me" although I could have misheard...) conclusion was I needed to email further details/dimensions to Pashley so that they could identify the part and then go back to reseller.
I further emailed Pashley on the back of my first message, asking what they precisely needed (given how complicated it seems to get parts) but this time they're not replying to me...
Anyhow so far not impressed with them; I'm an insignificant customer (actually I'm not even one yet since I'm failing to buy a part) so I doubt they'll engage with any further query unlikely to bring them any business...
But I'm sufficiently convinced with the picture I found that my rack isn't an end user bodge...

  • Little refurb done, only need to source lights to link to that dynamo, hopefully it still works... Otherwise all sorted, it's a perfect dad bike!

  • The area behind the bottom bracket / chain stay bridge plate where side stand fixes onto was very very rusted, I cleaned it / wire brush it thoroughly and re sprayed it re building the BB while I was at it...

(not so) pro tip: dark green hammerite paint (the stuff for outdoor metalwork) is a good enough match to the Pashley green!

  • I hope it gives you many smiles for much years.

Glad to say the Pashley is still giving smiles being used, here in full cargo mode carrying two kids, their bikes, and our picnic.

Bit of a quiet thread... There must be Pashley lovers "on here" no?

  • Looks like a wonderful dadbike. I should know.

If not for the significant hills in my area, I’d quite like a very upright bike like this or similar Raleigh for dadbiking.

  • Right now, considering how the industry have progressed, a lots of Pashley and similar Dutch bikes owner have now swap them for electric bike/cargo cause it give them the same freedom, just easier and further.

Still see the occasional Pashley including a nice 3 speed double top tube one that been severely upgraded in the last 40 years, it look like a modern Pashley now!

  • Ah, I see, and it makes sense, but on LFGSS there are still non-industry confirming peeps I imagine(d), with a penchant for old/odd/funny bikes...
Anyway, I've been riding the Pashley for shopping/nursery runs, etc recently (the picture above is actuality couple month old), and like every time I start using it again it's a joy.
Just ordered Pashley gold decals on eBay (thought I think the "Prospero" didn't have them, or not like the more recent models anyway), euh, because...

    Happy to read this!

  • Actually, it just mean you’re gonna cherish your Pashley even more now!

Pashley (company) still going strong and still building bicycles in a challenging world, the guys I talk to still work there for a long times get to help me fix and restore Pashley

  • I’d always dismissed Pashleys as a bit ‘all show no go’ but we are on holiday in Stratford just now and yesterday I popped into the Pashley and Moulton dealer here and I dunno if it’s my tastes changing with age or what but I found them quite interesting.

I think it’s cool that they’ve largely shunned discs, infact rim brakes too I guess, in favour of drums. I l love the look of the shallow steel rims.

I have been thinking I’d build a steel frameset to replace the aluminium one of the Cube I bought recently, will definitely be taking some inspiration from Pashley.

  • They're lovely/crappy old things. I love mine.
Why not get hold of an old frameset which you could mod as you know how?

  • Yeah I might.

I’ve got a couple of frames in the pile at the moment which I was thinking of modding along these lines but I also might want to build something from scratch.

  • Here my SS Guv’nor (again) it’s my go to fuck you bike.
Sportives, gravel, club socials it can annoy people on them all.

  • Lovely photos and a very handsome bike. Is it me, or does your Pashley have quite a high bottom bracket?

  • Why thank you. They truly are a lovely bike.
Yes the BB drop is around 50mm. Bike fit for a Guv’nor is, if the top tube hits you in the nuts with you feet on the floor, but you’re not crying it’s the right size.

  • love this thread, theres a guvnor blog but its a bit slow so good old info but no recent chatter. i did therefore wonder if id ever find any active fans!

    here's mine:

I also have a roadster sovereign and another sovereign stripped back to look like a guv.

  • Robert Webb rides Audax on his Guv’nor. This is him on LEL this year, I think he missed the time cut off though (due to lack of/too much beer 😘)
He runs a 2 speed crank set up.
