  • Poncho is truly waterproof. Rain jackets with meembranes like Gore-Tex are pretty much waterproof, however during prolonged rains or rain pours water will condense inside the jacket making it feel moist. This membranes provide some degree of air flow, however it’s worth to add that the flow stops as soon as it starts to rain and jacket gets wet.

I usually underdress when I’m hiking/biking and it forecasts rain. There’s really no good solution when it’s hot, humid and rainy.

  • Weirdly, by chance at work I asked the wax cotton guys at Halley Stevensons their thoughts and one swore by a wax cotton poncho for hiking.. sounds pretty heavy to me!

  • I was thinking about foil poncho. It’s full waterproof however zero breathability. It’s light, cheap and packs small, what’s not to like? I have never tried a wax cotton stuff but it does sound heavy and spacey.
