  • I really like it, I think it's superb. The nuttiness really comes through in a good way. One of my favourites at the moment and a bit of a bargain at the current price IMO.

  • hungover

    and Scottish

  • £20 delivered next day DPD no less. Tasty stuff!

  • Glad it’s good! Would have got a bottle myself but floorboards are currently creaking under the weight of booze in our house

  • All i can think about when it comes to that distillery is Michael Owen picking his nose

  • Had a really good evening in cut your wolf loose Brighton. Whisky tasting followed by whisky cocktails. Hundreds of bottles covering all tastes and budgets. If your in Brighton and like your whisky it's place to go. The Blantons Bourbon in the last pic was my favourite. Now I've got the task of trying to find a bottle

  • @J0nathan - not sure about this. Opened the bottle and straight away got a whiff of that TCPness, not overpowering but certainly there both in smell and taste. I'm not going to pass judgement straight away, it's just quite different from the usual Speyside stuff I go for.

Ninja edit: added a couple of drops of water and that's brought out A LOT more flavour. Again, different to what I'm used to but interesting. Will have a few more this week and share thoughts on Friday.

  • Oh no! Hope it grows on you and you don’t feel it’s a waste. Deffo a world away from Speyside, but it also grew and grew on me.

At the risk of being banned from the forum and undermining all my posts in this thread - I also try my whiskys with ice, and this is a great one for that. 🫣

  • You never try, you'll never know, eh? Certainly don't feel it's a waste and after trying it with a few drops of water I certainly see the potential for it to be a grower.

No judgement on ice from me, will give that a whirl too. Now coke on the other hand....

  • Took me half a year to open this. Pretty excellent. Rich, leathery and fruity with a fair amount of peat smoke.

This is somewhere between a Speyside and Islay @ElGonzo

  • Did the Dalwhinnie tour and tasting today which included a smokey 30 year old which is in the shop at £500 a pop. It was bloody delicious and very unusual for Dalwhinnie, completely different to their normal output.

  • nice.
I'm quite a fan of the winter's gold, nice easy sipper.
Any others you'd recommend? (aside from the 30yr old which is slightly out of my budget)

  • I bought the winters gold. We also had the exclusive distillery shop bottling which I found too harsh, the abv was a lot higher than the usual stuff. There was also a cask strength one which you could bottle yourself but that was £120 and not nice enough for me to spend that much. I did have an Auchentoshan Three Wood last night that was really good.

  • Oooh, where did you find Three Wood? I've only come across it in Australia, where I bought some and drank it, naturally.

Winter's Gold is very nice, especially if you pop it in the freezer as they recommend.

  • Got it in a restaurant in Pitlochry

  • Cool, it has an unusual taste, kind of "aniseedy". I like it, but until I came across it in Adelaide, I had no idea it even existed.

  • Oooh, where did you find Three Wood

Must be marketed mostly to the colonies as we have it here in Canader too.

  • Just picked this up for 50 quid and it's really lovely. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the standard Caol Ila 12, but this is great and pretty good value.

  • I guess Laga 16 is the new Talisker 18 ‘price point’ wise (god I hate that expression). Will have to just stick to it. No bad thing, really. Slàinte.

  • Just finished a bottle of that #sadface
Middle of the country price is CAD 160 + tax.

  • Diageo are just a bunch of cunts, everyone's prices have gone up but they've really taken the piss, they've had record sales though so don't expect ot to change.
