  • Harsh is exactly how I'd describe the Highland one, as soon as i cracked it open and had a sniff I thought "oof, that's a bit industrial!". Not very subtle, not a lot on the palate and the weak flavours just sort of fading away quickly. Worth a try though and as you say, still whisky and not terrible.

I've never really tried much from Islay, I'm pretty middle of the road in liking Speyside stuff but in the spirit of discovery, trusting strangers on the internet and having had a couple of wee drams on a Monday night, I've just ordered a bottle of the Aerolite Lyndsey!

  • Excellent! Do report back what you think.

It’s not super smokey or TCP-ey. It’ll be a good intro into the start of what a decent Islay whisky is. This review rings true for me: https://whiskyforeveryone.blogspot.com/2020/07/review-aerolite-lyndsay-10-years-old.html

I’ve had another dram of the Aldi with a bit more water and I’m getting more smoke in the aftertaste. It’s definitely not terrible for the price. It does make me appreciate just how complex and rewarding the premium malts are, just wish it didn’t feel like they were receding at light speed, price-wise.
