The verdict is: not great. But, for the price, it’s still whisky!
I’d agree with most of this: https://whiskyreviews.net/2022/01/31/glen-marnoch-islay-single-malt-aldi/
There really isn’t a lot of smoke and it’s definitely young and as a result harsh.
It’s not terrible, but for £16 I’d be foolish or just very, very wishful to hope for much more.
I’ve mentioned it a few times in here but the Aerolite Lyndsey is the best thing out there for a reasonably priced Islay single malt. It’s over twice the price of the Aldi one (£37 on Amazon), but more than twice as good.
I am very, very afraid that it is not going to remain so - these guys have it up there with Lagavulin 16 prices!!

Harsh is exactly how I'd describe the Highland one, as soon as i cracked it open and had a sniff I thought "oof, that's a bit industrial!". Not very subtle, not a lot on the palate and the weak flavours just sort of fading away quickly. Worth a try though and as you say, still whisky and not terrible.
I've never really tried much from Islay, I'm pretty middle of the road in liking Speyside stuff but in the spirit of discovery, trusting strangers on the internet and having had a couple of wee drams on a Monday night, I've just ordered a bottle of the Aerolite Lyndsey!
Nice! I know the square root of sod all about whisky but I know I don't generally like smoky ones, like Jura for example. Keen to hear your take on this one though!
