I enjoy the introduction of the triple.

I never totally got on with the 1x11 Rival that was on there. With this 3x9 I can comfortably pedal uphill at 5yo walking pace, which is important when dadbiking. I also have the top end to zip along plenty quickly for the sort of bike this is.
Long live the triple. And 9sp. And bar end shifters.

Triple does make sense that you don’t have a gigantic jump between each gears, either too spinny or too hard.
This is someone touring bike with a specific chainring for pulling trailers full of camping stuff.

That little ring is extra small! Is it on a Mtn Tamer, or similar adapter for tiny rings?
You’re right about the gear jumps. I used much of the range on today’s road and single track ride. Felt great, though when I kill the middle ring I may swap in a 36 over the 32 that’s on there.

Amen.

Don’t know, but I think it’s 17t inner ring that don’t get used until a trailer is added.
Be wary of going 36t, as this have the potential of chain getting dropped between the small ring and middle ring with a bigger drop.

Agreement with comments regarding triple chain rings.
Moving between rings is relatively easy and means one can maintain an even cadence even when touring. Of course this is not a realistic set up if one embraces the latest 11 or heaven forfend 12 speed madness. -

Fair warning, but having this gear setup on other bikes in the past, I’m reasonably confident that it will work just fine.

That is pretty wild

How much stress might there be in such a design?
