  • Are there any options besides Hylex for a reasonably priced carbon inline post for a 2016 supersix evo?

  • How do these older alloy dales ride? Obviously they look great and have heritage but would I be disappointed coming from a mid range modern alloy frame? Losing discs and clearance but gaining a lot of joy from the aesthetic

  • Really well, but they are very, very old, and probably all out of their service life by some margin. Cannondale didn't design them to be around for more than a few years.

    They do look great though.

  • There are a couple of options in the USE outlet store. I have no idea what size you need though so not sure if that's helpful or not!

  • I need a 25.4 so I'll just order the Hylix but I did grab a USE post for my gravel bike for 25 quid so thanks for that!

  • Is there any sense in thinking if one has lasted this long it might be a good one, or is it metal fatigue that gets them?

  • CAAD12 is the way to go if you're looking for classic design with modern amenities.

  • Good shout. The purple ones look 👌 and it seems they did some in rim brake first. Thanks

  • They look great, ride really nicely- but may break. As long as you are ok with that as a possible outcome go for it. Otherwise hang the frame on the wall.

I ride my 1989 Klein Criterium- but, not often.

  • Was very happy with my caad12. It's a great lightweght rim brake road bike. Be careful though that you want to deal with bb30/a as a bottom bracket standard.

  • Don't be overly worried about them breaking and killing you, chances are one never will.
I've been a Cannondale fan since Summer 1993 and my polished killer v mtb. Frames do crack, some more than others and I'm talking about all brands and materials. For the price you're likely to pay if the worse did happen (unlikely) then it's possible to strip and sell the parts and start again, probably with no issues.
I use my 2 'dales lots and hard as I'm a strava wanker, the March '94 R900 is still mint and gets thrashed along Brightons shit roads, the '01 silkroad regularly gets smashed around on the SDW and the roots of Stanmer Park. Granted both have modern 28mm tyres to soften the ride (and possibly transmit less shock to the frame....?)
Don't let the tiresome 'crack n fail' line worry you, personally my thoughts have always been if a used frame is still going it's a good 'un! I do check them both regularly though 😉

  • That's a big drop on your gravel bike!
    (Edit: posted this in bdhu)

  • As I have the arms of an orangutan it fits me like a glove, I have a less severe stem too (pic below) but this one's staying on. (28mm max tyre clearance and a clue in the name silkroad don't make it a gravel bike btw) 😉

  • My cannondales

Still trying to trade this one for the 56cm version

  • I decided to revert my March '94 R900 back to catalogue spec, off came the DA7410 & Zipp 440's and on went (mostly) nos 600 tricolor (ultegra) and Macic open 4's. In the day it rode on 23mm Continental grand prix so I fitted Conti's modern grand prix classic in 25mm. To say the ride has been transformed from the bone rattling zipps and 22mm tubs is an understatement. The cow hide look bar tape took some guts to go with though.

  • Wow really big improvement! Nicely done

  • Cheers. I've technically downgraded it but it rides so much smoother. I actually made a few quid selling off the DA and buying the tricolor!

  • I like that tricolor groupset a lot but found it hard to find good condition levers when I was looking once.

  • I actually like it as much as the DA 7410, the finish on the calipers and the polished hubs look great. I agree about the levers, most are so marked up but I found a mint pair on ebay for £80, they shift and click like new, but it took over 6 months to find a good pair. Very lucky find, as was the nos chainset for £80, ebay again.

  • what fork have you got on the caad10?

  • Very nice. What is the bar tape?

  • Thanks, Amazon unfortunately but it was the only bar tape around that was an identical match to original.
