  • I'm always paranoid about having my battery nicked. Comes in overnight or into a bag if I'm leaving the GSD anywhere out of sight for a while. Even if I'm nipping into the shop and don't want to carry it, I'll still make sure I take the key from the cafe lock so the wheel is locked and anyone who knows about the key doing both lock and battery doesn't have it easy. I will also lock through the frame above the battery so it's nigh on impossible to remove it. That and two kryptonite D-locks, a Litelock Core, an Abus cable lock for the saddle and seatpost and an Abus chain that connects to the cafe lock. My theory being they all need slightly different approaches to attack. E cargo means it's no bother carting them around, I don't notice them during normal use. Different locking again when at home, but I won't explain that here.

  • GSD are popular to be stolen out of all the cargo's, partly because there are so many of them, partly because there are so many that they are easy to shift (often look the same!), and partly I think a lot of folk who buy Tern, aren't bike people, their marketing is very geared toward non riders, and some of these folk are pretty naive. A nearly new £4-7k e cargo bike for sale sans its charger for 'only' £1500 seems like a good deal and probably legit to folk outside of 'bike guys'. I've had two in my shop, exactly this scenario, both were utterly embarrassed to the core that they had bought stolen.

  • There a lot around, it's true. I reckon I see 3 or 4 most days on my 6 mile round trip nursery run. The one's I've seen locked up, have used some ropey looking locks. Those folding ones that can be broken with a nut splitter make me shudder. But they pack nicely into a little bottle mount case.

Next for me will be GPS, but I forgot to ask them to enable the power port during the 6week check up, as it was pissing with rain and I just wanted to get away when dropping it off, then I forgot to call them. I've got it on bikeregister with the UV marking and microdot stuff.
