Dredging the TOIL discussion, I have worked in an office that militantly monitored clocking in and out times, 2 minutes late you got "docked" 15 minutes so would need to stay late to "Make up" the time.
If you got in early, or stayed late, without management approval you did not accrue time.
I would clock in at 829 and be out of hte door 1700 on the button. IF they needed me to work late because of deadlines, I would tell them I need 48 hours notice to make arrangements outside of work.
They were unreasonable at every step, so I would be too.
I also have worked somewhere that acknowledged my job has a clear deadline and DGAF if you rolled in an hour "late" or flounced after lunch. But the expectation was there to stay until 7 to finish if shit goes west.
Which I did without complaint, 2 weeks of doing a few hours extra was always out-weighed by the 2 weeks of doing fuck all.
