  • the amount a man focuses on tan wall / black wall tyre choice is is a direct corrolation to the strangle hold their hetronomative masculinity has on them

  • will the tanwalls be too much

I think yes, not that it actually matters what people on the internet think :)

Edit: ^lol at the timing of @Maj 's post

  • g-one speed

    great!

    tanwalls

    boooo

  • Tanwalls will never not be cool. Do it.

  • I also don't know what this means so maybe this is me lol? What if the answer is tanwalls are always the best?

  • Used an upcoming tour as an excuse to throw some cash at this.

I'm totally incapable of packing lightly

  • where to?

  • Girona to Bilbao

  • so jealous, enjoy!

    got a route?

  • Thanks :)
We have a string of connected komoot highlights, hoping to proofread and hone this weekend, setting off Sunday - will share when confirmed

  • Awesome! Bike looks super ready. Have fun.

  • Nice one! Enjoy!

  • Sick setup! Enjoy the trip !

  • Spain was unbelievable. We rode road, gravel, a daft mtb descent and many many many hills. My knee eventually gave up and I had to get trains for the last few days but tbh I was happy to get as far as I got given how little riding I've been doing this year.

Bike did fantastic. I thought I'd found the limit of cable discs but that just turned out to be the limit of my mechanic-ing skills. Gearing was spot on, just about everything was rideable and I found the dt shifters great. They can be a pain in the UK, when wall-like climbs appear out of nowhere but it was totally fine in Spain. Experienced a bit of classic gk squirm. And cloth tape is a bit more abrasive than I remembered but it's all good. I love this stupid bike and the trips it's taken me on.

I'll get some pics and route up in time

  • Little overnighter last weekend

  • Lovely light in the last pic. Is that up at Windgather Rocks?

  • It is! Maybe not the best bivvy spot in the world - it was pretty exposed, but the views were incredible.
    Wrote about it here:

  • forum favourite bike! so good

  • Ah, you're a GUTMer!
    Another of my bookmarked sites.
It's not bad as a bivvy spot, bit open, but the view more than makes up for it.

  • I thought I'd found the limit of cable discs

Dunno why cable discs get such bad rep, I've ridden tons on BB7s loaded up and they've always been fine (when setup!).

Bike looks great btw. Chainset is 🔥.

  • 100p agree. We've got a pair of budget "bengal" brakes on our tandem with two 203mm discs and compressionless housing. Even coming down a fast decent with luggage they were fine.
Got BB7s on both my other bikes.
Only recently thought about going up to a 180 in the front.

  • @King_Saxlingham and @MisterMikkel

How do you set up your BB7 brakes?
I've always used these instructions that differ a little from the way SRAM wants you to set up the brake:
    http://howtosetuptheavidbb7.weebly.com/how-to-set-up-the-avid-bb7.html

  • I can't remember, as it's been a while since I set up a new one - but I'm pretty sure I used the SRAM guide..
But I managed to set them up so well, that they work well even after I transferred the brakes (and adapters!) to another frame - which I found quite surprising.
I do run Jagwire compressionless housing.

  • Jagwire compressionless housing

Same, and I use the same guide as above, although I don't follow it exactly.

The lifeline cheapo brake pads work well too, I actually think they're a little better than the avid ones.

Not sure if there are better pads out there still though.

  • Thanks both.
I'm using compressionless housing as well.
Tried organic and sintered Avid pads, right now on organic Trickstuff ones.
Next stop will be SwissStop. Braking is/was good with all of the above.
Just trying to find the ones with the least amount of noise.

Edit: Sorry for derailing the thread. :-)
