Yeah it's really not good! Both incidents were in totally separate parts of town as well, Holloway and Poplar. My only concern with using a Purion, or any other non-removable head unit would be the fact that you're then solely relying on a lock to immobilise the bike. Even a good quality D-lock probably isn't enough to stop a determined thief. An Urban Arrow plus Carla trailer plus load probably weighs about 200kg so isn't going anywhere without electric assist. I'm inclined to think that even though the likelihood of losing a £100 removable head unit is probably higher, the adverse effect of losing one occasionally is outweighed by the benefit of not being able to move the bike at all if the unit is in a rider's pocket. Just some initial thoughts though, I could well be talking bollocks and please correct me if I am!
We had another attempted theft of the Bosch unit from one of our Urban Arrows yesterday. This time whilst the rider was actually riding the bike! He had 2 teenagers on bikes pull up next to him and try and grab it. He slammed the brakes on and they disappeared. So brazen! He's a big guy as well, I wouldn't fuck about with him.
